Dave, that's incredible that you got the wheel back! I'm surprised she didn't offer you the $20 back after you said that.

Updating November with my race and today's 1 hour masters swim. Just found out I got a charity number for Boston so it looks like it will be a heavy running focus through the winter into April!

I can say that I didnt even give her the chance. I just walked away after dropping the bomb. Funny thing is I always had a reward of $50 in mind. Her dishonestly cost her not only in karma (if you believe in that) but in $'s too.

Hey Jim, thanks for asking! I'm really worried about IMAZ due to the amount of workouts I have missed so far due to work/travel....  But we will give it our best shot and make sure to have some fun while getting it done!

Dave C, congrats on getting a slot for Boston!  How did you manage to get a charity slot? Have you done Boston before?

Sorry for the late update on October. Finished with 522 miles on the bike for a new monthly high for me. Need to average a bit over 600 for each of the next two months to reach my annual goal.

Getting up to date on November. Did my first race on Zwift on Sunday. The start was jacked up so I never was able to get in the peloton so no chance to compete due to the drafting effect. Turned it into a good workout instead. For those interested there is a group ride on Saturday at 8:15 where C riders will go off first, 3 minutes later B riders and 3 minutes later the A riders. Its a Cat and mouse ride totaling about 20 miles with another 6 in cooldown. Goal is to see how long C riders can hold off the others. All groups have to work together to catch those ahead.

Gabe just keep in in perspective and have fun with the day. 16:59:59 would still be your PR for IMAZ lol. Just embrace the day and enjoy it.

Sounds interesting, I tried Zwift but my trainer time is my TV time and with Zwift I cant do that. I should give it another shot.

Jim, thanks for the support, will make sure to have fun and shoot for my IMAZ PR ;-)

Dave L, I've been using Zwift together with movies on my TV.  By itself is not enough to keep me motivated for a 1hr ride or more, but together with a movie/episode it works fine.

On Zwift - once you embrace the social and group aspect it becomes addictive. The amount of races popping up is great. They're starting some weekly time trials. They will have some new courses soon as well. Having to be accountable to team members on a race makes you push that much harder. I will say the drawback is the difficulty in maintaining structure in your workouts. They rolled out a workout module that I will try in the next week.

Congratulations on your half marathon, that is a great time and for sure you could have broken the 1:30 goal without the hills at the end!

Dave, glad  to hear you found your wheel (literally)

Mitch, you are becoming a monster on the bike, keep up the good work!

Dennis, how did your 70.3 Oilman race go?

IT RAINED ALL DAY!!! The swim went well, the bike was a bit slower then I wanted due to the rain, wet roads, and constant wash off the tires of riders in front of me. The run was absolutely miserable! The run was set up on a golf course with several areas where we had to leave the concrete path and run through the mud and puddles. It was a very technical 3 loop run with large puddles on the path and lots of mud towards the end. But overall I had a great time. I was aiming for a sub 6 hour race but with my injury and losing almost 5 weeks of training time at the peak I knew that was going to difficult. With the conditions I was pleasantly surprised to end up with a 6:09:20 official time. (3 to 4 minutes of that was waiting for an ambulance to arrive after a friend of mine crashed on the bike.) Full race report to come.

PS-I got to see Jackie Pomeroy at the race, she took 2nd place in her age group. That girl is an absolute BEAST!!

Gabe - this will be my first Boston and my first full marathon. My wife works at a local school for children with developmental disabilities and they had 4 charity numbers. I had to complete an application and commit to raising at least $7,500. It's a great cause and the school does a lot of positive things in our community, so I'm happy to be helping them and also checking Boston off my bucket list! The weekend after the marathon I'm playing in an NHL Alumni hockey tournament where every team gets to draft an ex-Boston Bruin onto their team, and then the weekend after that is my 40th birthday. So April is shaping up to be quite a month!

Dave, you and your wife rock for doing what you do and I'm so glad to hear that you got that Boston slot for your 1st marathon, very well deserved!

April totally sounds like an awesome month for you!  It will also be an interesting month for me since I will be "surviving", more than "racing" the Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara desert

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
