Run
Comments: Slightly slower than last year (2:15:42), but less effort, felt easier--was running mostly to complete. I only got entered for this a few weeks ago, despite expecting to run it for a couple months. I felt I was ok trained, but wasn't making this an A race. I am evidently more fit/faster/stronger than last year, as the 3 minutes were likely lost in a potty stop I had to make at km 2 or 3. Went twice before the start too!! The lineup at the start was way too long to get into anyway. Thank goodness for Starbucks and no lineups there! Around about km 6 (not too far after the turnaround on Marine Dr.) was running behind a guy. All of a sudden I hear this noise every step he took--he was farting! I giggled to myself and immediately moved as far to the right as I could...He was absolutely not acknowledging what was happening--just kept on running. Guess I would have done the same if it was me... Started to get a little sore around km 7 or 8, nothing new there. Right hip/gracilis/hamstring. Had to talk myself out of walking--and I did. Last year I did 10:1, this year ran straight through except for walking every second water station. Started to pick up the pace about km 13 or 14. Didn't seem as long this year, guess the first time is always the toughest. Great support on the race, both the volunteers and the locals--BIG LOUD group at base of Burrard Bridge again--they get you up the hill for sure! Was able to speed up even more for the last km and finish strong. Even heard my name called at the finish ;-) What would you do differently?: Nothing, happy with this. I will likely run this again next year, for the charity, but plan/train better. Hard time figuring out how to incorporate running races into tri training this year. Post race
Warm down: Some stretching, wanted to get in line for the shuttle before the line ups got too long. Stretched at the car before the drive home. Event comments: Always great volunteers, race is a lot of fun, scenic. Last updated: 2012-01-09 12:00 AM

Got to the site about an hour early to get good (free) parking. Wandered around awhile, warmed up with slow jog and dynamic stretches.
