Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nat-they take people out of AG award contention when they win overall. So if the top overall winners are in your age group, when they hand out invites to national championships, they put them back to AG to decide who gets the invite. They also fold Clydesdales/Athena (if the race had those categories) into their AG. And for funsies, they consider if people will age up before the national championship (assuming it is in the next year). That’s a mess (and unfair, if you ask me). |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sunday evening here in Europe. Here are my week’s numbers 3 x S 3787m 1h34 3 x B 61.7k (plus some zwift miles) 3h53 3 x R 35k 2h48 S x 6, about 40 minutes Total: almost 9 hours. A good week for me. Strength streak stopped at 11 this time. Turns out, spreading my 5 minutes throughout the day doesn’t work for me. On Thursday I did the lunges and stuff and forgot about the sit ups and plank. Did them just before going to bed. On Friday I didn’t do anything, thinking I had time and then drank some wine with dinner and forgot about it all together. So, back to doing 5-7 minutes in the morning after my walk with the dog. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by jmhpsu93 Soooo...totally forgot about the whole "everyone gets a podium spot in triathlon" part, where there's an Overall top 3, then a Masters top 3, THEN the age group top 3, and I got my trophy in the third one. Still a really great race despite some mistakes. Apparently my age group is the most competitive...3 of the top 7 overall in men's 55-59 (WTF???), so I missed the AGN spot by almost 20 minutes LOL. Dudes - go chill out or something. @Gretchen - yeah felt the 99.99% humidity today - actually kinda getting used to it so wondering how fast we'll be come Sept/Oct when it's not Florida here. Well that's a roller coaster just reading the posts. 2nd best ever sprint, 3rd in AG, off to Nationals, Nope 20 minutes off Nationals... W. T. F. I have never seen a race where if you're an OA winner you're taken out of the AG results. Must be an American thing. Sorry that you didn't get that nationals spot, I know you've been working hard for it. But, if you ran your 2nd best ever sprint tri, you have to walk away happy, that's a great effort, you gave it everything and must have executed as well as you could. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by drfoodlove Great job Mike! Congrats!! 2:44 run for me today (and yes, that was the schedule…who does that?!?) There is 0% chance that I'm stopping my Garmin at 2:44... Unless of course it lines up with an acceptable distance x.0 or x.5km etc. But 2:44, I'm jogging around the carpark for 60 seconds. |

My numbers, S: x1, 14min B: x2, 1hr R: x6, 5hr 14min, 41km S/M x8 (1 stretch/foam roll, 7 bodyweight) 58 minutes. 6 and a half hours of SBR, back 3 double workout days and back into something that looks a bit like multisport mode. Plus my bodyweight streak is up to 14/14. So happy with my week, a good start to a long process. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning everyone! (at least to those who are in morning...) 12 mile bike this morning. Feeling better on the bike this week. Mike - I am so sorry you didn't make nationals. Heck of a race though! |

Race report is up: https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=560066&posts=1#M5289290 Good race overall but you'll read about my shoes a lot. Taking a couple of days off then back at it. Next race is another sprint end of September, plus I'm sure I'll throw in a 5K or two between now and then. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone! Catching up per usual. It's stayed pretty steamy here. I have not run yet b/c of it, but I WILL get out there this week. I think every day for at least 7 days has had an excessive heat warning (currently it's 98 F but feels like 105 F, as an example...) I had a really busy weekend though! I went to masters practice Saturday, though I was a little late and only got an hour in (about 1750 yds). Overall relaxed after that, but Sunday I went and did some vball drills in the morning, then went to a friends to play some pickleball before jumping in the pool and lounging for a bit. Went swimming in the park pool this morning for the first time. I've never been able to get a swim pass, but one of my neighbors got one and all they do is ask to see the receipt, so he sent it to me and they barely look at it. Felt good even though I was pretty beat from the weekend. Got in 1250 in a half hour. Have vball league this afternoon, so trying to drink lots of water to deal with the heat. My goal this week is to wake up and work out each morning, so started off right this morning! My hip/groin has felt pretty good too! Definitely a huge relief. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nat, you missed a day or two, but not a big deal at all! Get right back on that horse! And I agree that breaking it up still counts, though I'm like you. I might do one thing but later forget or run out of time. I need to do it more though, I sit SOOOO much. Mike, come to masters! I'm the same way, my swim this morning was pretty lazy overall. I just can't keep my focus when it's just me. They've been kicking our butts lately, so will get your speed up in no time for your September race! Congrats on a great race, but bummer about AGN! How amazing though, that so many top people were from your AG. Haven't read the RR yet but will try to check that out next! Also, that water temp...WOOF! Gretchen, somehow you impress me more with every post. You've been absolutely crushing it. I love to hear how well you're super long brick went, and totally get that being such a huge confidence builder! Also, 100+ miles!!!!! Just wow. Andrew, yay swimming! Definitely feels good to change things up sometimes, so glad you're getting back into the total tri training. Also, no treadmill unfortunately ![]() Robert, glad to hear it sounds like the achilles is better and you've continued tackling it to keep it that way. Very smart! And that you listened to your body and took a rest day the other day. Rough nights of sleep can lead to lackluster workouts. But you're back at it! |

Smelly soup! Next steps to eliminate shoes issues: clip bike shoes to bike and elastic laces on running shoes. |

I hate to vote against the queen of transitions, but I'm with Mike. Many (Most?) people lose more time trying to get into their shoes once on the bike than they gained by not putting them on in T1. If you're going to do it, you have to practice a lot. Like mike, I'm about 98% sure I'd crash trying to get my shoes on whilst riding. 2nd the elastic laces for run shoes though. Anything up to a 70.3 they're a must for me. For the Ironman, probably 50:50 either way. |
