Regular 1739 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN I'm still here, have had a bit of a hectic weekend trying to get jobs done around the house. Miss 3's birthday is in early december, and I have quite a list of landscaping to get done by then. For my week (IMNZ, week 5/23 for those keeping score) Swim, 0. Life kicked my arse Bike, x5, 5hr 40 min Run, x2, 2hr 13min S/M, x4 all PT sessions, 1hr 30min Total of 9 and a half hours of SBR for me. I give myself a C this week. No swims, 1 run short and no stretching. Coach Bullfrog is not amused. And, off again for work this week. Only a couple of days, but it's going to be some more enforced rest/light days during travel. Have a good week team. |

1918 , Kronobergs lan | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Originally posted by nicole14e Can't remember if I told you guys this, but I'm on a medication that causes lots of crazy stuff, and one of those things is high liver enzymes. I have decided not to drink until those level back out...they said I'd be fine to have a drink here and there but I'd rather not overwork that very important organ. Went out with some friends Saturday, walked to and from the bar, but didn't drink and woke up feeling good yesterday. Had a lazy Sunday and got some stuff done around the house. Didn't work out though, which really doesn't make sense, but I either do all or nothing, and yesterday I chose nothing. That's great! I feel so much better since I am doing "damp rest of my life" afer doing "dry January" last year. Also I have become more conscious about what I eat, no more over processed food or as little as possible. Yesterday I took the time to cook some vegetable fritters which were quite nice (more spices next time). Dirty house? oh yes, 2 cats (one of them has a chronic cold so snot everywhere), one dog (who is shedding like there's no tomorrow at the moment), and one man (who doesn't think it's always necessary to take his shoes off when he comes in if it's only a little wet outside). Luckily we are rid of the teenager (who is no longer a teenager and was the worst of them all). Edited by Rollergirl 2024-10-29 6:14 AM |

Member 3107 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Early run in the books at 5:40 with Purl. She only ran perpendicular to me one time, so we are improving. She likes to run immediately in front of me, which would be generally okay if the leash was a tiny bit longer. My wife bought us a "running leash" which has a waist loop for me, then a stretchy section of leash, then a handle, and then the clip for her harness/collar. Probably works great for people who are 5' tall, but I wish it was a bit longer...or...I guess if my waist was a bit smaller it would be a bit longer too, so hmmm...guess it is my fault. Anyway, we are working on our manners and trying not to be in the way 100% of the time. She is doing pretty well for her third (?--4th?) run on a leash. She is wholly uninterested in sniffing at every blade of grass, so that it good. Later today I have a bike ride scheduled and it is an absolutely near perfect fall day for such activities. I just wish the wind would calm down a touch, but wind resistance is good training in embracing the suck. |

I told Mrs Bullfrog the bike and treadmill need individual TVs, but she just wont believe me. TVs are super cheap in the U.S., so it isn't hard to acquire a stable full of them. The one on the left is like 20 years old...it's actually an LCD if you can believe that it still works. You definitely need more than one...sometimes you want to watch TV while Zwifting. |

Still doing some kind BR 5 or 6 times a week but nothing to write about really. Having a ball playing floorball every Saturday, so glad I managed to organise this after years of talking about it. Then there’s hockey of course (our team not doing great but still managing to grab points here and there so not catastrophic yet) Is it just me or is does Purl sounds like a canine version of Gretchen? Have a great week BDAS Snarky comments not about training are welcome here. As are Lakers updates. And yes, Purl is definitely Gretchen's familiar. Agree, we have grown to be friends outside of tri I love hearing all the goings-on, not just training! |

2108 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Andrew, good luck getting the extra TV! And Coach Bullfrog better crack that whip! Did you get some stretching in! Glad your PT is still consistent though! How's your knee been feeling? Nathalie, I'm with you! Definitely doing damp rest of my life, too! And eating better, though I continue to be a work in progress there... Gretchen, Purl sounds like an amazing new running partner <3 and Wilbert...just love everything about this dog Have you looked into a leash extension? Could get one on Amazon for pretty cheap and give you another foot or two of lead Mike, I figured you had to have some kind of special carpet cleaner. I can only imagine what those things would pick up in my house... Me - Knee is feeling a lot better with the KT tape, so that's nice! Did some hip PT this morning, a 5 minute yoga warm up, 10 min of core, and a 5 minute stretch cool down. Went on a walk at lunch today also. Not an especially long one, but good to get moving. |

Expert 4891 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Hey, all...workout day #1 complete...45 min bike, 1 mile E pace, then over 30 minutes of upper body strength and core work. Tough getting rolling this morning but it's done. I've planned out my tentative 2025 race schedule:
I simply can't let the stench of my last Olympic be the last memory of an Oly, and besides I'm finally healthy enough to run train for the race. @Gretchen: sounds like Purl is digging the running - she'll get the routine down, and you sure don't get the concept of an off-season do you? @Andrew: you do a great job of managing your workouts around life - I've never attempted this lifestyle with little ones running around AND work traveling so I know it must be challenging; Coach Mike agrees with Coach Bullfrog on the PT @Nicole: glad the KT tape is working...I've toyed with the idea of trying that but it seems too much of a hassle; I'm going back to PT in January for a "tune up" so I'll ask

1918 , Kronobergs lan | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Nice race schedule Mike, a lot of “A” races, and an Oly, yeah! I agree, you can’t let "that" race be your last olympic distance. I’m a huge fan of KT tape, use and overuse it a lot. Edited by Rollergirl 2024-10-30 6:11 AM |

2108 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Agree, awesome looking schedule! And strong day one to start getting you ready for it! I took the KT tape off today because I was really uncomfortable (pain-wise) so I thought maybe it was that. The pain was radiating so hard to tell the source. Taking it off didn't help, and as I moved more I realized it was my hip that was in so much pain. I took some Naproxen today, which I don't normally do (I like to know when it hurts b/c it keeps me from doing dumb stuff), but could tell I actually needed it today. I think it was probably from working out yesterday and/or sitting in a car for four hours b/c I drove up to PA to see my niece's soccer game...was potentially her last, but they won so they play again Saturday and have qualified for States! Going last night means I had to be in early this morning to work on something that was technically due yesterday at noon (but given to me after 5pm on Monday...), so no workout this morning, but I'm meeting up with a friend after work and plan on walking to and from his place, so will definitely get some movement in. |

Member 3107 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Nicole--four hours of driving for a soccer game? You love your niece more than I love mine. :D Sorry to hear about the pain yesterday. I do the same thing with analgesics--only in extreme circumstances. The pain is there for a reason and yes, it (kinda) helps keep me from doing dumb stuff. Mike--nice looking schedule! I am just starting to think about mine and this year is just conflict after conflict. I will be racing some new things this year just because I can't get to my normal races. Andrew--solid week! Nat--I agree with Mike (?--I think), 6/7 s/r workouts a week ain't nothin to sneeze at! For me, I accomplished one of my goals for the year this morning. I wanted to swim what I call the big boy workout at masters at least once this year. We have three groups, fast (mostly ex-collegiate swimmers), medium (mostly the athletes of the group who didn't swim as kids), and slow (everyone else) and our workouts are geared toward each group in terms of distance and interval timing. I sit right between the mediums and fasts in that I can usually do the distance, but the intervals are often too fast for me by 5-10". I mean, seriously, these folks are doing 100s on the 1:20--ridiculous! Anyway, today was a distance workout. I was able to keep up with the big boys and do that workout. 3500yds later and I have to agree with Mike (again!) that I'm not sure I know how to off-season! Later today, either a run or a bike. Winds were at 40mph yesterday gusting, so I did not do my planned ride and I did not put the bike on the trainer to get it in despite conditions. Maybe I do know how to off-season...a little. |

I kinda top out at the middle lane, and this summer I was in the 2nd slowest. |

I kinda top out at the middle lane, and this summer I was in the 2nd slowest. @Mike - We had a fast showing this summer, more so than in the past, and have a lot more ex-swimmers than we used to, so I'd say on a "typical" masters team you'd still be solidly in the middle. @Gretchen, that workout sounds horrific (sprinter over here) but you totally crushed it! And way to go on off-seasoning with skipping that ride! I'm proud of you! #Growth And I really do love my niece (though I'm sure you do too!)! She's a really good kid and my love language is quality time. I don't get to as many games as I'd like, but since this is her senior year, I'm trying to get to as many post-season games as possible. They're fun to watch since they're pretty good and it's an easy drive. She's also agreed to take care of me when I'm older since my cat will be useless in that arena, sooooo...gotta put in the work now, you know? |

Oh...man...I hate to tell you this, but your cat with "take care of you" when you die. I promise. :D :D :D (Sidenote: my wife and I have this ongoing "argument" about whether our old dog Clyde (aka the best dog in the whole wide world ever and I will fight you on that if you don't agree) would have eaten her if she died. I, the forensic anthropologist, says yes...without a doubt. She always said he would eat me, but not her.) |
