This picture was posted on my local tri clubs email listserve.   This an actually competitor at IM Louisville!!   He did the entire bike and run in cut-off jean shorts!!  That is Hardcore!!!!!!!  I was told he finished in like 16:10.    I personally like the beard that even Jeepfleeb or members of ZZ Top would be jealous of.

Disclaimer:  If this person is a member of BT, the posting of this picture is not to be offensive.  I am impressed that you did so well with the attire that you wore.  (Was it comfortable?

Josh

i saw that guy he passed me on the run.  His bike was from the 80's but man he finished.  he was a icon for the week. many times he was mentioned and even poked fun of in fun that he was doing the race on a bike older than someof the competitors.

I think stuff like this is more inspiring than the guys on $10k bikes going under 8 hours.   This guy rolls up in whatever he can put together and finishes an ironman.    Nice job, man!   Just goes to show you that there aren't many required accessories for Triathlon.

Exactly!

And did ya notice that he has tennis shoes on for the bike... NO clipless pedals even!

I can't imagine riding 112 miles without some padded shorts on. Call me spoiled by my butt likes padding.

If he dropped down from the mountains of Kentucky for the race, then you can bet his water bottles were filled with Bourbon.

Interesting story but not very impressive. The time he finished 16+ hours is achievable for a lot of people with the same equipment he was using.Congratulations nevertheless.

As for the cut-off jeans if he did not have a padded thights underneath them...ouchhhh!!!

Hmmmmm, finishing an Ironman is not impressive?  Who'd of thunk?

True almost anyone barring major injury or set back can finish an Ironman in that time.  What impresses me about ANY Ironman finisher is the amount of dedication and time that has to be devoted to training to be able to achieve the goal.  So yeah, maybe a 16 hour Ironman finish in itself isn't impressive, but when you look at the big picture (the hours of training and sacrifice of other interests in life), I am damn impressed.   It's not like you can just work out a few hours a week and then go do an Ironman.  Although that might be an impressive achievement too.   It would be interesting to know what this guy's training schedule was like.

I guess I like the picture the guy puts forth because I am a fan of the simple and the low tech.

I think anyone who finishes an Ironman is very impressive regardless of time! He looks like he could be in his 60's? Awesome!

X2. I doubt that most people realize the amount of training needed to finish a sub 17 hour IM.

I saw him leaving T2 and at the finish line.  My hat's off to him for finishing an IM in those things.
I don't think I'll be complaining about any of the equipment I "have to live with" anymore.
