Pre-race routine:

Coffee; half oj, half probiotic yogurt smoothie; banana; stomach felt funky over slight anxiety due to weather
Event warmup:

It was a soaking rain when I arrived at the race (I napped in my car for about 45 minutes before setting on foot to the event), and I scrambled to find friends and the bag drop-off. Warming up consisted of staying as dry and warm as possible.

Comments:

Although I felt cold and wet the entire race, I settled into a comfortable pace from the start. Great course, amazing volunteer turnout, FANTASTIC wood surfboard finisher's medal, nice corral setup at the finish. Overall, and despite the weather, I am very proud of my performance. Full RR here:

What would you do differently?:

More speedwork during base week. Other than that, I trained hard and smart, with not a single sidelining injury. Struggled the tiniest bit to juggle training for the half and triathlon training, and still need to get my nutrition on track. Of course, I hope next year that the weather is less cruddy.
Post race
Warm down:

Warm down? Heck, it took me an hour afterwards to stop shivering.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My legs were just too cold to really open up my stride. Wet shoes were absolutely not a problem...only the tiniest blister. Running in a rain poncho shielded me from the wind, but it definitely distracted me. It took a good 2 miles to stop thinking about the cold, rain and wind. Again, the rain was not a bother; the cold and wind really made it difficult to get my legs loose and relax my stride.

Event comments:

Fantastic race. I'm going to make sure that this race is on my calendar every year. It's the coolest medal of all.

Performance: Good
Course: It was about 52 at the start, with a soaking rain and wind. For SoCal standards, it wasn't peaches and cream. The course took the half marathoners north along PCH, then up and into a residential area, then loop back, continue onto PCH, turn around for a return trip going south along PCH. Wind/rain was persistent the entire race.

Great job out there.

It was definitely not ideal weather to be sure, but the rain and cold were not nearly as tough to run in as I would have imagined. Even the wind seemed to cooperate just a bit.

Sounds like you ran a really strong race

Oh, and I too hope that the weather will be more like it was in 2007. (Sunny and Cool)

I loved the medal too - almost made the cold/wet/rainy day worth it.  Almost.

You had a great race!
