Pre-race routine:

Got up, had coffee and banana, drove to race, found Lynne, Liz and Jennie.
Event warmup:

Not much! Just a little stretching. Made sure I had plenty of bodyglide on feet.

Comments:

I started out a little bit too fast, which got me winded, so I slowed down and let some people pass after a while. It took me a bit to recover from that, but I am just too competitive and not good at going slow when people are near me! I had to walk up a few hills that I didn't have to last November. I don't know why, besides I was just tired! Maybe it's still the holiday weight. I just figured I would take it a bit easier and not suffer, as it wasn't a race, just a timed run. The best part, besides knowing a bunch of my pals were out running, as well, was that I was given NUMBER 1! Everyone always cheered GO, NUMBER ONE when I ran by. That was fun. The trail was really slick in a few places so I was really careful there, as I couldn't see injuring myself for the rest of the season!
What would you do differently?:

Eat a better breakfast...I just had a banana, coffee and a gel right before the race. The gel had caffeine in it, and I think that was too much, which probably attributed to getting sort of winded early on. Perhaps stretch a little more. And I need new music on my ipod!!
Post race
Warm down:

Lynne, Jennie and Liz all arrived at the finish not long after I did, since they all got a bit turned around and didn't do the whole course. We hung out for a bit, then got lattes and went out to breakfast. Yay!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being tired, slick running surface, fat ass.

Event comments:

I love doing the NW Trail Runs. Totally fun!!!

Performance: Good
Course: Very windy trail, lots of small hills, some sand, big puddles, and a few slippery spots. Had to go under a fallen tree, jump down some old cement steps, dodge branches....basically the course kept me on my toes! It was at the south end of the airport, so the big planes were taking off constantly. Interesting.

That race sounds like so much fun! I love all of the jumping and ducking and running through mud and water. That's a great time considering the conditions (and good on you protecting yourself from injury).

Love the pics, too. Go, No. 1!!!

I LOVE the pictures!

Super job on a very LIVELY trail! Wow ... any obstacles you DIDN'T face? (Wildlife? I guess other runners count ).
