Pre-race routine:

Woke up at about 5 in the a.m.. Drank and big glass of water followed by some nice, hot java. Drank a squirt bottle of Accelerade on the way to the race.
Event warmup:

No real warmup. Just kind of hopped around a little bit. Eavesdropped on about 4 different conversations discussing the positives/negatives of stretching.

Comments:

I feel like it was a good run for my first half mary. Actually first time I've even run 13 miles. I wasn't really sure how to pace it, so I probably erred on the conservative side.
What would you do differently?:

Start out a little faster. I think I could have done 10 - 15 seconds faster per mile and still been able to finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the finish for a few minutes eating donuts and cookies and drinking gatorade. Tried to stretch right away, but the muscles wanted to cramp on me so I left them alone for a little bit. Hobbled to the shuttle bus, hopped in the car, and headed home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Speed and endurance. Still need to work on running fitness. I've made good progress this winter with endurance, but I really need to work on speed this year.

Event comments:

Good race. A little smaller than I expected, but I enjoyed it. I'll probably try to do it again next year along with ING.

One of the hardest things when you first start going long is learning to trust your body at those distances.

Great job! A few more and you will be dropping the hammer a lot sooner and breaking two hours!

Nice race

Great run. It was my first 1/2 yesterday. We finished very close to each other. Nice job staying within yourself. Being able to do that will pay off in HIM and IM distance. Your off to a good start for 2008.
