My husband and I are celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary this summer and were thinking of going on a cruise to Alaska.

Curious to hear other BT'ers experiences, thoughts, cruise details.

Thanks!

my mom and dad went on one for their 25th anniversary, and they loved it. Dad got to do a "Harley Experience", where you get a bike and just take off for a couple hours through the backroads. He's always wanted one, but for various reasons, couldn't get one. He and my mom did a train tour too (again, one of dad's favorite things). And they did a neat "gold rush" experience, where they sieved out gold, and you got to take home whatever you found. They got a little, and my dad had it added to a nice locket type holder for mom as a gift. They took Princess cruises I think, and really loved it because it was more "adult". They regularly go on Carnival, but I think Princess worked out better in terms of price. They love cruising because they don't have to worry about anything, food's right there, room's right there, shore tours are easy to book and do, and days at sea you can sit around and read a book.

If you go, let me know how it goes. Our 10th is in 2010 and we have thought about doing an Alaskan cruise also.

I went on one when I was 16 and I loved it. The most memorable part was the little seaplane ride over the glaciers to this little spot tucked away in the mountains. There we went inside a cabin and ate freshly caught wile salmon while watching bears walk around the salmon grills outside.
I loved the towns, too. And the whale watching. I would love to go again as an adult.

Best vacation of my life.  We went Vancouver to Seward and it was amazing.  We loaded the schedule full of tours (helicopter tour to land on a glacier; floatplane tour circling Kodiak island, where we landed on the water in a cove and watched kodiak bears feeding; whalewatching tour in Juneau; White Pass Railroad tour).

It was absolutely incredible, but the funny thing is, my wife and I talked afterwards and realized that the trip would have been amazing even if we had skipped all the tours and just sat on deck of the ship and watched the scenery.  It is really THAT beautiful in Alaska.

We are thinking about going back this year or next year with the kiddos.

I went on a cruise through the inside passage a long time ago and absolutely loved it. We went to Sitka, Ketchikan, Juneau and inside Glacier Bay on a Princess cruise ship. While I could have skipped Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan were very nice and Glacier Bay was unforgettable. However, I think my favorite part was just cruising along the very narrow channels, with land just hundreds of yards away on both sides. That allowed us to see elk, bear and literally dozens of bald eagles flying overhead at times. The food was also fantastic.

Congrats on your 10th Anniversary-- it's also ours this year! Although after this winter, we're heading to warmer climes to celebrate-- Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic next week!

One other thing-- you may want to add a few days before or after your cruise to enjoy a few nights in both Vancouver and Victoria. Both are absolutely stunning cities that offer very different experiences. Vancouver is very modern and cosmopolitan, almost a cleaner version of New York set in the Pacific Northwest. And Victoria offers a taste of a more classic, British-influenced city. Both are well worth a couple of nights!

Not like what I say is going to matter, but cruises are really bad for the environment.  You should consider something else.

No, I'm not even a hippie.  They really are bad.
