Overall Rank = 154/154
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 1/1
Pre-race routine:

Found a use for my REI lighted cap! It sure helps see tire valves in the dark!! Did the usual stuff. Had a muffin & cliff bar for "breakfast". Forgot a couple of things.
Swim
  • 49m 17s
  • 1640 yards
  • 03m / 100 yards
Comments:

Focused on taking it easy and not wearing myself out. After about 10 minutes, realized I was still hanging tough, but zig-zagging more than I wanted to, so I did my usual and switched to breaststroke. Seemed to be 'stuck' to another girl who was breast stroking. It worked out well, cuz I could site off her. Stayed ahead of her until the end and I was savoring my 'victory' when she blew right by me on the way out the water and crossed the timing mat before me! Lesson learned.

Beat nine others out of the swim.

In either case, this was a PR for me at this distance!! I should really learn to swim, I amaze myself and how well I do with no training at all.
What would you do differently?:

Forgot to lube up my feet and it was really hard getting out of the wetsuit. Oops.
Transition 1
  • 06m 46s
Comments:

Picked up my pre-transition flip-flops and walked over to T1. Happy to see a few bikes there. Lollygagged too much with wetsuit removal.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to RUN to transitions.
Bike
  • 1h 35m 3s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Fastest bike ever for this distance in a race. Was moving very fast the first lap and made it 16 miles in the first hour. The winds picked up for the second lap, but I managed to hold off a couple of girls and a guy. Yay me!
Transition 2
  • 05m 30s
Comments:

Tried to wipe the mud off my feet a little. Sat down, put on socks and shoes and dashed out.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster.
Run
  • 1h 18m 48s
  • 5.5 miles
  • 14m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off WAY too fast, got passed by everyone. The plan was to run 14:00 for the first loop, then 13s for the last loop. It was a good plan, but it did not happen.
What would you do differently?:

I should have stuffed a gel in my pocket. They only had water on the course, no gatorade or anything. Lost my steam after the second mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran thru the finish to find the Buttar crew munching on the crumbs that were left over. This is NOT a race that's friendly to anything less than a 2:45 Oly.

Met Susie who had finished 5 min before me...she was a sweetheart and waited around so there would be someone to cheer me at the finish! We figured out that we are both registered for the 70.3 and I invited her to ride with me while I drove the course. We ended up having lunch together and having fun!

Overall, I'm very proud of myself today!! Finally broke that 4 hour barrier!

Sounds like a great race.  And now you know, always bring nutrition on the run, cause you never know what they will have.  And I HATE it when there's no food left at the end - that so bites.

Congratulations on going sub-4! Keep it up!

Oh I know what you mean about the food being gone! I came in DFL in an Xterra once and the only thing keeping me going on the trail run was the thought of the Subway sandwiches at the end. Got there and the spectators had eaten it all! ARRRGGGHH! I hope they were stale.
