Thanks!
Sorry, out of the loop for a couple of days, and went to Vegas with the wife. NOPE, we don't gamble, but took in a Death Cab for Cutie concern and "O" Cirque Du Soleil. Highly recommended...

As for the course, the feedback is really great. Appreciate it. Lots more 2 loopers chiming in now. I do have concerns about a 3 loop as well. So, please, keep it coming!!!!!!

tikicult - 2008-04-25 1:12 PM Seems like everyone on the Texas forum is doing this race!!

Most of us did this race last year, and it was so good, we can't possibly miss it.  In case you couldn't tell, Keith is the real deal.

Seriously, we WANT the race to be MUCH better than last year, so all feedback is great.

So far, better food, more/better busing, better expo, better bike course, more entertainment on course, tent for shade post-race, etc....Lots of ideas.

we REALLY do listen to all the feedback. Especially after the first year, we learn alot. Some of the things didn't work the way we wanted last year, and you always have surprises.

We're working on the Dowtown Experience stuff right now....

This is my first year into triathlon, so I don't have much experience with different race organizations yet. I do know that Ironhead runs a tight ship, they do a good job.

Keith,

Above I voted for 2 loops.  I haven't raced Lonhorn before and I'm looking forward to this race.  It's my next A race.  But, I just wanted to comment that if you have an 'Energy Lab'-like part of the course you need to keep it.  I've done Buffalo Springs the past 3 years.  BSLT has its own 'Energy Lab' run - after 2 hills there is a long, straight, flat, hot, dry, treeless, section of road that leads to this ominous looking power plant.  It's surreal seeing the athletes coming and going through the heat waves.  Things like this and quadzila, etc. give the course character and are things us athletes will talk about everytime the race comes up in conversation and the forums; not to mention that these add to the challenge of the race.

I'm actually leaning towards keeping it 2 loops, and making that a big feature of the race too....I've got some ideas....

I vote for two loops! Looking forward to doing this event again this year. We really enjoyed it last year, can you work on the temperature for next year? It was a little warm last year.

yes, it's on www.ironmanlonghorn.com

If someone could get the elevation profile, that'd be great.
I'll get it on our website too....

I made an excel spreadsheet in the other thread about the bike course changes. But I think you made one more change to the course after I made it. I'll get you a new one here in a bit that reflect the most recent map on the site.

The race is now an official BT Texas event.  Brian and I are signed up and stoked!  The race is 49 days before IMAZ, which is plenty of time for me to forget how to S/B/R.

Honestly, overall the race was great. No complaints here.

The only real "needs improvement" comment I will make is this... there need to be more buoys in the water for the swim. There simply were not enough to sight off of, once the first right-handed turn was made.

The bike course was FINE! Once we got off the major road (which has been removed I think)... it was great.

The two loop run course was great.

Food was great. Of course, as always.. I'm sure it was better for the people who finished in 5 hours. I finished in 7 hours and it was pretty picked over. But that's what up BOPers get.

Heh...if the food was picked over by the time you finished, I better pack a sack lunch, because all that will be left when I stumble to the line are the vultures circling around waiting for me to drop.

Did it last year - the Hill was killer. I vote for 3 loops if the rest of the course is a little flatter. I really think last years heat made the Hill what it has become. Keeping us off the road to the expo center keeps the heat from coming up off the asphalt, too.

I agree about the buoys. Sighting was the only real problem last year.

The expo was lacking, but moving it to downtown will be a big improvement I think.

Keith,

I posted elevation graphs in the Bike Course changes thread based on a map that jschapman drew.

I drove the 'new' bike course yesterday (4/30). Rolling is pretty good term for it. Although coming from Houston it looked mountainous. It will be a challenge for us flat landers to say the least.

Challenge is good...
Was just out there driving it too, with the Traffic Engineer. He's working on the traffic control plan right now for it. It's probably more appropriate to just worry about cattle crossing though. Very few cars on the course....

Do you suppose a cattle guard affixed to my aero bars would create more drag?  Hmmm...

Mountainous, huh?  I seem to recall a certain race director telling me that the bike course wasn't too hilly...wonder who that was?

I agree about the bouys after the 1st turn, but there was a great big radio tower that was in a erfect line with the bouy's so I stopped looking for them.

Brandt, yes the 2-3 real hills that are out there are challenging, the rest of the course is rolling.   You have 55.5 miles to enjoy the rolling before the majority of the climbing kicks in.
