Anyone got a guess on when Longhorn will fill up?  I'm trying to spread out my registration costs so they dont all hit on one credit card bill.

It's awesome to have a wife that does every race that I do...but 2x the registration fees makes you go broke!

Best bet is to contact Keith and ask where registration stands. Either that, or wait for him to chime in here. It's probably safe to assume that it will fill up, though.

1350 right now

giving SOME consideration to bringing back the sprint on sat, just for Dennis

heading out to the bike course this am.

probably going to eliminate 1704 and use only country roads.

may eliminate 290 and do the beginning of the sprint course (its been repaved) and then take 973 to blake manor. really nice ride!!!!

for those who did the race last year, how was 290???

also, i have a possible course to eliminate the big hill on the run. thoughts???

Umm.... NO!!

Keep the hillPlease.  It really adds to the challenge and character of the course.  None of the triathletes I know wake up on race morning and think, "Hey, if this thing gets at all difficult, I am 'outta there.  I mean, I wouldn't want to sweat or anything."

Sweat??? During a race? No one told me I might break a sweat...

I'm with David - keep the hill, it keeps things interesting (although I'll probably be cursing it on race day)

Hey, I am thinking of doing Longhorn. I have never done a HIM before, this a bad idea? I figured signing up now gives me plenty of time to train for it. Any suggestions, recommendations, etc etc? Thanks!!

PS. Im from Philly.

This is a great race, and I would highly recommend registering. It is a good HIM for your first. If you put in the training you should have plenty of time to get ready depending on your fitness, how much time you train a week, etc.

As for suggestions be ready for the Texas heat, and have a good nutrion plan for the race. Texas in October can be a lot different than the NE in October. There is plenty of support for this on the course, but be ready for it to be hot. Oh yeah and make sure you do some hill training on your runs, and bike.

Lots of GREAT new stuff this year

A question for you all.....the run outside the park and through the expo center wasn't deemed all that exciting or great last year.

If we did a 3 loop run, and eliminated running out to the expo center, AND covered the course with more entertainment, spectators, etc, would you prefer it? Or, do you like the 2 loop run utilizing the expo center?

For me, having the course loaded with stuff for families, excitement for you, more bands, beer/entertainment/viewing center on the Quadzilla, etc would be better. BUT, I'm asking all of you on this....

See there folks....this is why people are raving about Keith's races; he asks the athletes what they want, and he delivers.  (And I haven't even done one of his races yet, but all I hear are great things from those who have)

yeah, but you didn't answer the question....
This is a serious consideration, judging by the lack of excitement over running out at the expo center.

We could have a nice run, VERY exciting and spectator friendly if we did the three loop run. I know some people don't like them, but personally, I think it could be really cool.

I have a list of things to just make the run kickin' for EVERYONE...athletes and spectators. But, I need to see what you all think about it....

I am all for three loops, personally I hated running out to the expo center last year and would be thrilled if you got rid of that portion of the run. More music and more chances to see spectators sounds like a great idea!!! I vote for three loops.

Based on the aerials, running out to the expo center looks like it sucks. Three loops looks alot more fun.

As a spectator last year, I'd have to say last year was decent in terms of spectating. Of course I was willing to walk to the far side of the run and hang out there, so I may have gotten more out of it than your average observer. I think if you can sort out a way to get people more spots to view the run(especially shaded spots, we all know how hot it was last year!), then that would be great.
