i came home from a walk/run the other night and was greeted by my 9 and a 1/2 month old daughter steaming accross the floor on her hands and knees....this has been happening for a few weeks now when I get home from work....but this time she stoped half way and looked me in the eyes and said very clearly with a huge grin....daddy....and then crawled double time to me.

I was sooooooo happy!

Daughters are the most wonderful thing.  They can make "daddy" a five syllable word, day-yuh-de-a-ee.   This begins to occur at about 13 years of age.  Yesterday, Daughter #3 was driving home from Pennsylvania.  She got off to a late start.  I cautioned her to go by way of Ohio rather than west Virginia and the mountains.  Day-yuh-de-a-ee.  At 6:00PM, I checked weather.com.  It was going to be very cold.  I called again.  She is in West Virginia.  Get off the road, I say. The roads will freeze.  Day-yuh-de-a-ee.   Thirty minutes later, she calls Janicewhokeepsmehumble's cell phone.  She has spun and hit the guard rail.  J is remarkably calm.  Soothing motherly sounds emerge.  Daugher is ok.  Car is dinged but driveable.  Daughter is spending the night in a Comfort Inn somewhere in Virginia.  She got home safely today

Enjoy'em Jeff.  Daughters are wonderful.  This daughter came bringing wonderful poetry and good grades.  Cars can be fixed.  Lessons can sometimes be learned from mistakes.

Ahhh, daddies and daughters.... that's powerful stuff. As a mother, I marvel at how early little girls learn to flirt with and ...ummm..... influence their daddies. And as a mother of as 23-year-old daughter, I'm STUNNED at how long this influence lasts. Get your own date, I tell her, but no......

She lives in Portland, OR. We do not. She's going to buy her first car -with her own money, I mean. But who's getting on a plane right after Christmas to go help her????? Let's think!

But congratultions on your daughter's calling your "name". That's a special moment you won't forget.

As the father of a 13 year old girl, I am firmly convinced that she has been to a secret class (that she passed with flying colors) that teaches young girls how to wrap a father around the little finger, with out the father even being aware he has been wrapped. This process starts in the first few seconds of life and I am sure it will continue forever. Daughters are the most wonderful thing, and I enjoy being with mine more than anything in the world (yes, even more than a new Litespeed), so.....yes, enjoy your little girl, because from here on out, all sentences will start with "Daddy" and a look that will melt your heart....and before you know it she will have graduated from the secret class and you will be forever wrapped!!! ;-)

As a daughter, I was a member of the "secret club"  When I was a teenager, I actually talked my dad into buying a 6-pack for me and my girlfriend because it wasn't cool to show up at a party empty-handed.

When I was in grad school and needed a car, dad "loaned" me $3000 to purchase Ruby.

As the mother of a 3 1/2 year old girl, I watch it unfold everyday.

A great moment!   My daughter just turned 12.  I've always told her she has pretty brown eyes that are hard to resist.  She still gets me by looking at me and saying, "pretty brown eyes?"

That’s awesome! I have a 9-½ month old and he is crawling like there is no end. He has said DaDa and Mamma but with no understanding. You must feel like a million bucks!
