Overcast
Total Time = 43m 58s
Overall Rank = 15/132
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 1/9
Pre-race routine:

woke up, took a shower, had a bowl of cereal, sipped water and got dressed pretty much like every other day
Event warmup:

It was really cold this morning. I got there early to beat the lines at the timing chip table. I sat in my car for a bit afterward to warm myself again. I then got out and ran about 1.5 miles for a warmup and then shed a few layers and went to the starting line.
Run
  • 43m 58s
  • 6.1 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I started near the front but not on the first row. I went out at about a 7:00 minute pace and just tried ot hang onto it as long as i could. I found some people to run with for the first 5k and stayed well on goal (21:32ish for the first 5k) Most of those people were running the 5k only so they dropped off after the first lap. I was out by myself for much of the second lap. I slowed slightly but about 1/2 way through the 2nd lap i found a target. There was a guy who looked about my age that a stalked down. He was about quarter mile ahead of me at the 4.5 mile mark and i ran him down and beat him by a minute or so. It turns out he wasnt in my age group, but i felt good that i was able to hunt him down and pass him. I felt good throughout the run and was surprised at how well i did. I was a bit dissappointed that the course was short, but i still PRed even if you factor in the extra .1 miles
What would you do differently?:

i felt good most of the run. avg HR was 169 for the race. Maybe i could have pushed harder. I need to work on that some
Post race
Warm down:

jogged and walked around a bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

it was cold

Event comments:

My tri club CMC sponsors this race. There is always tons of volunteers and it is well organized. Ultramax event did the timing this year so timing was quick and accurate. The course was great but i was disappointed that the it was .1 mile short. The post race food was good and the medal was decent for a relatively small running race. I will do this race again.
