Subject: Disc Cover pic and question

So I got my disc cover today and trimmed it and mounted it, I only received 10 fasteners and I think I need 12 as it is a 24 spoke wheel, so I am going to have to look at the hardware store for something close.

Here is the question, I have to take the wheel back off my bike as the wheel is causing the wheel to turn even when coasting, has anyone experienced this?  Also, it seems that I am not going to have enough clearance for my Garmin speed and cadence sensor unless I mount the magnet on the inside of the cover, any issues there???

Thanks for the help.

I would not think there is any issue mounting the garmin magnet on the inside. Cover looks great BTW.

Can't recall how many fasteners I have, but you just need enough to hold it in place (doesn't really matter how many spokes the wheel has underneath).

The magnet for the speed sensor will probably work fine through the cover.

Cover looks good.  Now you just need to track down a fast front wheel to go with it and you'll be all set.

Also, if you're running a 10-speed drivetrain, removing the cassette spacer might fix the rotation problem, as having the disc mounted against the cassette body (and thus the cassette) might be sort-of doubling-up the spacer and cause some excess drivetrain drag.

Just a thought.

Yes, 10 fasteners should be fine, just space them evenly.

Ok, fixed the issue with the cassette, I had installed the drive side and the the cover was rubbing on the hub assembly, so I just trimmed the hole to make it a little larger.

Here is why I ask about the fastener, the non-drive side is warping on my and rubbing on the Garmin sensor.  I can only get it to stay down slightly but is gets very close to the sensor.  I brought it in and showed an engineer I work with and he mentioned maybe cut it so that it fits inside the rim area so that it doesn't have to have the extra bend and it fits closer to the spokes.  I am assuming I am having a little more of an issue with this as my wheels are 650's so I don't have as much room as the 700's.

I wanted to just edit my other thread to add that I am trying to save some money to get a Hed3.

Any ideas on cutting it to sit inside the rim.  I really want to get it finished today as I am taking the bike in for a tune-up tomorrow and want to be done with it before then.

I had a Uni Cover and a Cateye computer.  The magnet was inside a no problems reading the revolutions.

By the way where did you get your disc cover?  Is it a Uni Cover?  I have look but can find one.  Could you provide a link, please?  Thank you.  Smile

Scott, I would think you don't want the cover to sit inside the rim as you'll lose some of the aero effect.  I'm no expert but I would think that you want the disc to deliver air around the rim and tire rather than having it hit the rim again.  Make sense?

It looks like you have enough room on your rim, try holding the cover on with electrical tape instead of the fasteners that come with it.  I tried using the sex bolts and I just never could get the cover to sit right and in particular, on the non drive side.  Just take a few minutes and smooth the tape as you go.
