Comments: I was hoping to set a PR, maybe even a sub-50, so I set my timer to beep every 5min. I have a bad habit of starting too fast and dying at the end but this time I remembered to start off slow. First 3K was on pace. Every time my timer went off, I saw the KM marker. 4th K was steep downhill and I did it in 4:34. 6th K and I was slightly sub-30. I was 8sec ahead of sub-50 pace @7K. Unfortunately, @ ~7.5K, I had a stitch and couldn't get rid of it. That and no more downhill last 3K meant I lost significant time, avg ~5:15/K. So no PB nor sub-50 today. Post race
Warm down: Actually I was still quite cold at the end of the race. Stretched a little. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm just not a cold weather runner. Never really felt warm and relaxed. Event comments: A record 10,000 runners toed the start line and took over Canada's most famous street and "run down Yonge, without getting run down!" in the Sporting Life 10K, Canada's Fastest 10K. In some ways, I'm a little disappointed I didn't set a PB. It would have been nice as my 10K PB was set EXACTLY 10yrs ago on this course when I was F35-39 @50:17. But in some ways, I'm happy to have been running consistently and injury free for the last 10yrs. And @F45-49, I ran 50:35 today, placing 7th percentile in my AG, which is probably my best in a big race. Last updated: 2008-04-14 12:00 AM

Left early as DVP is closed today. Got there ~30min before race. Every Sporting Life 10K I've raced before had great weather, but today was very cold (6C) and windy (28kph wind). I needed gloves and an extra vest.
Jogged a km to start line. Still quite cold.
