Fred Little - 2008-06-02 2:11 PM What can you drink besides water. I need to find something !!!

Hey Fred, I'm in the same boat.  Seems the options are limited.  I have tried seltzer and unsweetened cranberry juice, but it doesn't seem to satisfy my thirst.  Lemon Juice in water got old quick too.

I blew it Sunday.  On the car ride home from a bike tour, I was falling asleep at the wheel..... not good!  Wife was out cold and we had been up since 4:30am.  I caved and had most of a can of Diet Coke.  Woke me up, but wasn't happy about drinking it.  Then had pizza, there it is again and some more DC at a family gathering that evening.

I'm guessing pizza is not all that bad, if the sugar is kept out of the sauce and dough.

Any 100% juice is good as long as it is unsweetened ??
I like the lemon juice in water idea.

As long as it's in moderation. I mean, if you're drinking 20 ounces at a pop, it's not so good for you. Personally, I'd say no more than 8 ounces of 100% juice a day. You're much better off eating whole fruit - you get all the nutrients in juice plus lots of fiber and you'll feel full.

One thing we do for our kid is give him watered down juice. You can stretch that 8 ounces pretty far if you throw an ounce into 8 ounces of water - gives your water a bit of flavor, but doesn't add a ton of calories. There are only about 15 calories/ounce of 100% apple juice.

Of course, it all depends on the motivation for cutting the crap. Technically, real juice isn't crap. But, if your motivation is to be overall healthier, then drinking lots of water is the ultimate goal, I would think.

So, is anyone besides me finding themselves eating way more often and a lot hungrier? I'm thinking it's because I'm not really eating much in the way of calorie-dense foods. It's a good thing, I guess, if it ups the metabolism. But, sheesh, man, am I hungry often!

I am also always hungry now. I have eaten a ton of whole grain brown rice with steamed vegtables and chicken. Standard meal times are easy for me now to make the right choices. What is extremely hard is the in between times when I need a snack. I have been eating almonds and other nuts with a handful of popcorn. Do you have any other suggestions.
Why have I only lost one pound?

Snacking is the hard time, isn't it? I've been eating a lot of fruit, mostly. I also have a small bag of "raw power" mix - which is just raw almonds, sunflower seeds, and raisins. I've been snacking on that at work when I get super starved. Last night I had a little block of goat cheese when I realized that my schedule yesterday had been too hectic and I hadn't eaten anything between 11:30 and 5:00. I was getting furious while making dinner and realized my blood sugar was totally crashing. Not a good thing.

It's interesting for me, because it's only been a few days, but I've found that I'm already preferring to make better choices. Last night I bought a bag of baked low-salt potato chips to go with dinner (shredded turkey sandwiches on whole wheat, no sweetener added buns & organic, low fat, low sodium, sorghum sweetened baked beans). My husband was so psyched, but I didn't actually want to eat them, because while they weren't deep fried crap, there really wasn't a lot redeeming about them, either. I ate grapefruit with my sandwich, instead. Yay, me. Oh, and the beans were awful. Just gross.

I like beans but they do not sound very good. Tonight I am thinking a potato fried in olive oil with hot peppers and bell peppers with some cajun seasoning along with some egg whites.
I love food .

I carry a bag of mini carrots with me at work.  If I'm hungry I pop a few and that staves off the hunger pains for a while.  In the afternoon around 3pm, I'm guessing when my blood sugar starts dropping, I have a small banana.

We had our first cheat meal last night - crab rangoon, squash curry, almond cookies. YUM!

Right back at it today.

So, I had an interesting discussion with a nutritionist yesterday....the same I've mentioned before. He sees the food I eat and he knows how much I exercise and he is still amazed that I'm the size that I am (small)  He thinks that I'm not absorbing all that I ingest and has suggested some Primal Defense. (probiotic stuff)

So, if it's true that I'm not absorbing much then I'm really gonna have to start eating healthier....

We shall see what this does to me.  Could help with the racing. It sure would be nice to not have to eat every 30 minutes while exercising...

Carry on kids, you guys seem to be doing much better than I.

Probiotics are good stuff. Course, I sort of wish I had your problem. You could just have a super high metabolism. I'm pretty sure they can test your metabolism - something about putting you in a chamber and measuring how much O2 you breath out our something....

Hi guys!  I've actually had a pretty good weak with NO cheat meals...yay!  After the Diet Coke cravings on Monday (and a little on Tuesday) I seem to be past the worst of it (for now, at least).  I'm loving my lime-flavored and cranberry flavored La Croix and the rest of the time it's straight water.  Starting to feel a little bit better (less fatigued), but am hoping I really feel it next week.  You all sound like you're doing great too!

That does help, doesn't it?

We did well this weekend. I whipped up another batch of home made healthy granola for the hubby, and made a batch of pseudoyams' peanut butter energy bombs (natural peanut butter, honey, oatmeal, WW flour). Yummy! A little too yummy. I am limiting myself to 1/day.

Husband and kiddo are on a big smoothie kick, so I threw together smoothies a couple of times. Apparently, I'm better at it than hubby is (so says son). Funny.

Peanut butter energy bombs sound perfect for this heat. I could have used one for my run yesterday. I actually lost 3lbs on a 4 mile run.

Still doing well at not eating the crap. I was horribly disappointed last night because we went to this kid's cafe that touts its healthy food, and while yes, the dal I had was healthy, it was also a completely bland, tasteless bowl of mush. *sigh* So unsatisfying.

No cheat meal yet for me this week, though there's supposed to be a neighborhood cook out tonight which might end up being my cheat meal.

I managed to NOT CHEAT last night at a neighborhood block party. The kiddo made smores, and there was strawberry shortcake, but I was good and just had my black bean burger. (Well, unless you count that as crap, which I don't really, as it was the best choice available.)

I would say black bean burger is not cheating. I did good this weekend as well. I am still eating my clif bars though after my shorter runs.

So, I suppose it's a good thing that when I cheat I now feel like total garbage, eh? Ugh. Pizza and birthday cake does not for a good meal make.
