Swim
Comments: The swim was ok for me, it's not my strongest discipline by any means. The start was a little frustrating considering some jerk actually grabbed my ankle and tried to pull me under. I was a little off course heading to the first bouy but corrected fairly quickly. Exiting the lake and running across the bridge to the other half of the course was disorienting but I managed to catch my breath a little. The second half of the swim I had a lot of trouble sighting and I know I was way off course. I was "that guy" who is way outside of the pack looking lost, but Imanaged to finish in a decent time for me. What would you do differently?: I need to work on sighting and staying on course more. Transition 1
Comments: As usual I had trouble get my wetsuit off. I had to sit down and pull it off. My girlfriend was right beside the transition area cheering my on which helped tons. I had no problem running in the bike shoes this time since I switched to the new cleats. I lost about 4 minutes after I exited the transition area readjusting my rear tire. The race wheels don't sit right and like to slide up into the frame. What would you do differently?: I think I'm going to cut the legs down on my wetsuit and practice getting it off more. Bike
Comments: I loved the course except for the hill at mile 38. They actually closed off one side of the highway. The route along the water was beautiful and fast. I think I averaged 21 mph even with a slight headwind and a crampy hamstring. There was a third climb that I didn't expect. What would you do differently?: Triple check my wheels and more hill repeats in training Transition 2
Comments: This went pretty smooth. No problems racking the bike or finding my bag. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I got a little excited when I came out of T2 and my watch said 3:36. If I could run around a 1:24 I might break 5 hours! My right hamstring had a different idea though, it started throbbing around 2 miles and I quickly decided to back off. I told myself that breaking 5 on your first HIM was a little ambitous and not worth a pulled hamstring. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and tried to stretch out my legs as much as I could. What limited your ability to perform faster: My hamstring acting up. Last updated: 2008-01-12 12:00 AM

Woke up way too early from being anxious I guess. I took a shower and waited for brakfast to open at 0700. After a quick breakfast we checked out of the hotel and drove 15 minutes to the race site. I did a quick check on my bike and loaded up the water and fuel on it. Nothing much after that, we walked down to the start in time to hear the pro wave start.
I did some quick stretching.
