Overall Rank = 13/187
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/16
Pre-race routine:

OJ when I woke up. Had packed the night before, so I just hopped in the car and drove to the race.
Event warmup:

Very short bike, two miles maybe. A little bit of swimming.
Swim
  • 03m 45s
  • 273 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

First open water of the season, and I was apparently happy to be out of the pool. The swim went VERY well. Great breathing, barely had to sight, felt fast.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

There was a pretty long run over sand and grass into T1. Then the lead out to the mount was pretty long and uphill in the grass. While actualy at the rack, I was very quick with this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Bike
  • 22m 14s
  • 8 miles
  • 21.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Tougher than I expected. A tailwind tricked me at the beginning, which let to punishment after the first turn around. The second turn around was ridiculous. Right at the bottom of a long steep hill. So, not only could you not benefit from hammering down it, but you also had to make the turn and just start climbing from basically a stand still.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention to the wind. I thought I was feeling GREAT. I really just had a wind at my back. Overall, though, it was still a good leg.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Did not have a good feeling leaving T2. Then again, I never do. I'm still intimidated by the impending run. GET OVER IT!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 18m 58s
  • 2.3 miles
  • 08m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

Ugh. The reason sprints are so hard for me is the run. Right about the time my legs loosen up, it's time to push. Heck, it's time to push when you start a sprint run leg. Mine just don't "click" for a while. I sucked it up the best I could, and hey, I did an 11:00 pace in this thing last year.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Almost puked. Grabbed a bottle of water and walked around aimlessly.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm not a fast runner. Otherwise, it was good.

Event comments:

Just a small tri, sort of like a community event. They did increase the participants by about 50 from last year, which is nice. Even on a two mile run, there was a stretch of NOTHING. No people, no houses, no buildings, no trees. That actually made me run faster, just to get back around people.

Had a good day. I actually didn't hit my time goal, but by design it was seriously agressive. In the process of actually trying to do something that seemed out of reach, I ended up with some hardware and pretty good day.
