Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5am feeling like sh*t because I slept in my car. Anyways.....stretched, ate a Oatmeal-To-Go (so good) and a Power Bar. Drank a ton of water since I lost so much when I was sweating (from sleeping in my car).....
Event warmup:

Swam around in the water for a few minutes to get loose and watched the HIM folks head out. Water felt nice.

My great swim times in the pool are translating into bad swim times in the open water.....haven't figured out why yet. Dissapointed.
What would you do differently?:

Devote more training time in open water.

Took 40 seconds off my T1 time from my last race, so that is encouraging.
What would you do differently?:

I was kinda disoriented after the swim and the long run to T1, but other than that I just need to work on small mechanics. I need to get T1 under 1 minute.

I liked this course way more than my last race, seemed more fun. Me and 2 guys from my age group battled the whole time, trying to match each other which made it a lot more exciting. I was more than satisfied this time since I didn't blow up on the bike like my first race. I can attribute that to a fair amount of hill training lately and I feel like I can improve a lot more!
What would you do differently?:

Just keep training, cutting time here and there.

How was my time here slower than my T1? Who knows....I was a bit wiped out after pushing hard on the bike, plus it was hot as hell!

I can run so much faster than this! It took me 2 miles just to get my feet back under me after the bike. This one guy and I ran with each other almost the entire course just keeping each other motivated, that was a really cool experience since at anytime the heat could have claimed one of us haha.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder.

Warm down:

Drank a ton of fluids, ate a melted Powerbar, stretched a little bit, cheered some finishers on. After the race I went and chatted with someone in my age group who I knew beat me and asked him how he did. When he told me he thought he finished 7th or 8th I thought he meant in our age group so I figured not to stick around and see the awards. This morning I come to find out he meant overall and I placed 3rd in my AG and didn't even know it!!! UGHHHHHH I wish I could have gotten my award but I guess knowing I did ok is almost as good =).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was only my 2nd race, so I'm improving quickly!

haha, this is so cool, I was one of the guys battling it out with you for the age group spot! you ended up getting me on the run, and i ended up in 4th of the age group. awesome job though, especially it being your second race! hope you're back next year for some more competition
