Pre-race routine:

Breakfast - oatmeal with blueberries
Event warmup:

10 minute jog and a 10 minute swim
Swim
  • 10m 56s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m / 100 yards
Comments:

Acclimated to the temp very quickly. Couldn't figure out why I was breathing so heavy, turns out I was just going faster than I'm used too!
What would you do differently?:

More speedwork in the pool!
Transition 1
  • 03m 48s
Comments:

Had trouble clipping in, just need more practice. Organization was good, actually wasted a few seconds trying to figure out what I was forgetting, but I had everything I needed. Felt bad for the guy running around trying to figure out where his bike was, he couldn't find it right away.
What would you do differently?:

Just go faster, more practice needed.
Bike
  • 52m 23s
  • 15.53 miles
  • 17.79 mile/hr
Comments:

Went well and am pleased with my efforts. Just need to keep improving in this area. Ate quite a few bugs on the ride, they were thick!
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Went well, again with more practice, more speed will come. Organization was good. Had a long run to the end of the transition area.
Run
  • 33m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Had wicked bad shin splints for the first half of the run. Almost had to walk but they mostly went away the second half. Don't know if it was a cramping issue, hills issue, or was just pushing too hard.
What would you do differently?:

More hill work, they killed me!
Post race
Warm down:

walked around trying to meet up with my family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to incorporate my hill and speed work, but overall I exceeded my wxpectations.

Event comments:

Fantastic race, already looking forward to next years!

Nice report. It was a beautiful day. I think you might be referring to me not finding my bike. I did not get there until 6:50 and a tough time trying to squeze my bike into transition. Two nice guys let me in as my wave (9) in transition was full. I ran 3 rows past my bike, very frustrating buy my own fault for not getting there early.

Glad you had fun.
