Bellevue Barnburner 10K - Run10k

View Member's Race Log
Bellevue, Nebraska
United States
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 48m 48s
Overall Rank = 28/117
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 11/24
Event warmup:

Rode my bike 11 miles through the hills of Bellevue. If you've never done this, Bellevue sits on the Missouri River. Let's just say the hills aren't mountains, they're shorter but steeper. Grueling and painful. BUT I needed the hills/run brick.
Run
  • 48m 48s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

As most of my training is done in Chicago, this absolutely killed my legs. I'd planned to run a 45 flat or faster. I figured that wasn't happening after mile 2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Hills suck. Actually, I shouldn't blame the hills. I suck.
Post race
Warm down:

Got water and an orange and then hit the bike again to finish the last 20 miles of my ride. Which was interesting in itself as the trail was flooded out in several places.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The hills.

Event comments:

Great race put on my Jim Kohout as a fundraiser. Well done, Mr. Kohout.

Performance: Average
Course: From Mission Park, right on the river, up the hill through Old Town Bellevue, up another hill through some 'hoods, up some more hills through some more 'hoods, up some hills toward Bellevue East High School. Finally at mile 2.8-3.5 was a long downhill, and just in time. Then it was back uphill until about mile 5.5 or so, including one hill that was pretty much straight up. Killer. Mile 6 was all flat or downhill. The last 0.2 miles was flat to the finish. This route would be ideal for hill training and I'll likely do it to train in the future. Again, not like the mountains, but shorter and steeper inclines. Basically it sucked. Mile 1: 7:17 Mile 2: 15:12 (7:55) Mile 3: 23:48 (8:36) Mile 4: 31:40 (7:52) Mile 5: 39:58 (8:18) Mile 6: 47:18 (7:20) Mile 6.2: 48:48 (1:30) I think that's how it went. I didn't actually write these down so I'm going completely from memory.

Yup, not fun or funny at all. Probably just like the race.

Killer time for hills and no hill training, though. You did it, so well done!!!
