Pre-race routine:

Once again this year my son decided to wake me up at 2:30 and once again he went right back to sleep while I could not. Laid in bed for an hour or so then got up and watched SportsCenter. Had a cereal bar and coffee around 5 then showered and read paper. Left house around 6.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 07m 55s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Dont know if I like this format all that much my time tells me I put in nearly the exact time I needed to but I felt like I was going slower waiting for people and then spent a lot of energy passing people, passed at least 4 or 5 people. Overall pretty happy but never really got in a rhythm. Improved a minute over last year.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn how to swim faster
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

A lot better than last year, went sockless and made effort to move fast. Long run to bike start which added to time a little. Pretty happy with this
Bike
  • 32m 57s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.85 mile/hr
Comments:

Well when I decided to do this race in the middle of my HIM training figured I would go all out and see what happened. Avg HR was 177 and I think it peaked around 186, I went about as hard as I could except for the last .25 where I just tried to spin out my legs because they were burning. I tried to get my HR down on the downhills but did not decrease all that much. Passed a lot of people.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, very happy with the bike. In retrospect probably just should have gone as hard as I could on downhills as well.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Overall pretty happy with this, coudlhave been a little faster, ripped race number while trying to put on race belt so that took a few seconds to fix. Went with no socks to make a little faster.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to run faster in bike shoes or learn how to get feet out before dismount
Run
  • 25m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

When I got off the bike my legs were burning so I figured try to get HR down a little so I did not blow up on run. Got to first mile marker and looked at watch and said 8:58, definitely slower than i wanted to go as I was going to push this race. So felt pretty good and went pretty much all out rest of race. Probalby could have gone a little harder. Passed a lot of people. Was spent when i finished.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around found wife and son. Had some water and a bagel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

Good race, fun

Nice race!!  That first mile marker was long.  Do you have tri shoes?  Not too hard to get out of them on the bike... work on that.  That will save you a good amount of time.
