Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 36s
Overall Rank = 126/389
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 9/45
Pre-race routine:

power bagel with PB, water, banana.
Event warmup:

rode bike to event site from my house. Warm up run and swim.
Swim
  • 08m 29s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt terrible on this swim. My arms felt like lead in warm-up and never got better. I just felt tired, before I even started. My form fell apart, but my hubby says I stayed on a 1:40/100 pace the entire time. I was first position, so no drafting for me. I did pass the 3rd place guy, though. The time wasn't terrible, but it could have been so much better. I've been swimming 7:30 in practice.
What would you do differently?:

Better pre-race rest.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

This T1 time included a LONG run up a hill to transition area. I felt my actual transition couldn't have gone better.
Bike
  • 44m 40s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.12 mile/hr
Comments:

I started this bike feeling as I'd already done it. My legs were so fatigued.
What would you do differently?:

I need to ride more hills and longer rides to gain endurance.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Included long run across transition.
Run
  • 29m 40s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I tried to push this, but got a terrible side cramp at mile 2. I slowed it down and then pushed it up the hill the rest of the way. I've decided I'm too far out from giving birth, because my "childbirth is harder" mantra doesn't work any more.
Post race
Warm down:

gatorade, beer, walked around

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I know these will sound like excuses but I went camping the entire week before. I slept an average of 4 hours a night. I have a sinus infection and I felt horrible. My surgeon had warned me that I would have decreased indurance for a full year after my surgery...so maybe that's it. Either way, I just felt yucky and exhausted this entire race.

Well, I think you did fine, and had fun hanging with you and Terry at the race.  Also, thanks for the food afterwards.    Cheer up, we do this for fun.

Hey, sorry you weren't feeling good but your times look good to me--especially that awesome swim. Bummer I didn't see you but I bet you were home by the time I crossed the finish line!

Good for you pushing on even though you felt like @^!@%!&^#%!*^(!@^!( !!!

As for the swim, I can't feel too bad for you as I don't think I've ever swum a 1:40 pace, EVER!

Hope the next race goes better!

Maybe you need to have another kid

All your other excuses reasons sound like they could have an affect.  Way to be out there this weekend.

What you were calling excuses would have been enough to keep most people on the couch.

Good Job!

well, for not having your A race you sure had a fast swim!  Wish I could swim that fast.  It's early in the season and it takes most of us a while to get our bodies in to race mode.  Nice job!

As Dillard reminded me, "You can't PR everytime." Way to push through a tough race with what sounds like a lot of baggage going in. If it helps, the bike was more like 12.7 miles.

Great meeting you and some of the gang at your house!
