Pre-race routine:

We arrived at the race site about an hour and a half before the start, got our T-shirts, and grabbed some coffee and fruit. We were trying to meet up with friends and family, so there was a lot of walking around, making phone calls, and general confusion.
Event warmup:

My sister did a little bit of stretching, but I just walked around.

Comments:

I ran at my sister's pace, which is somewhat slower than mine, so I was never uncomfortable and I was able to enjoy the whole run. I fell off of one of the walls and landed hard in the mud, and at one of the mud banks I tweaked my right knee a little. The lake crossing was fun. During most of it I could barely touch the bottom, but there were so many people moving through it, all I had to do was float and I kept moving forward. Coming out of the water and running wet reminded me of a triathlon, and as I was thinking that a guy behind me said "where are the bikes???" The finish was a little confusing, since after the mud pits they had rows of pipes spraying water, and a lot of people were washing off while the clock was still running.
What would you do differently?:

Bring my own beer!
Post race
Warm down:

Had a beer and a sandwich, took some pictures. The showers were so crowded we didn't bother and just changed our shoes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My sister!!! But that's ok, I'm just glad she did it with me. She only started running about 5 months ago, and she has made a lot of progress.

Event comments:

I heard a few people comment that the course was harder last year, but it was a lot of fun. Highly recommended!

Performance: Good
Course: Shortly after the start, we were sprayed down by fire hoses and encountered a little bit of mud. After that it was a mile or so of sand and dirt trails, followed by a shallow river crossing. Then more dirt, and a long hill with a castle at the top. At some point after that we had to run over tires. At about mile 3.5 we encountered the first real mud, and a climbing wall. After that was a neck-deep lake crossing, followed by more mud and then more dirt trail. I don't exactly remember what order all of this was in, but I know at some point we had to crawl through a tunnel, and there was another shallow river crossing and more sand. There was another wall surrounded by mud pits, a long steep hill that was covered in mud, and the final mud pit, which we had to crawl through.
