Any other BT'ers besides me doing the Callaway Garden's Super Sprint this weekend? Should be a blast. This will be my first repeat tri, and we had such a great time there last year. Super fast, super flat, super short... A great combination :-)

I'm in as an escort to my seven year old son. It will be the longest tri he's done so far. He's excited to race, and I'm excited for him to cross the finish line.

Lauren,
Don't think about it...do it. It's a great, quick race that you'll feel good at the end of.

Way to go all of you first-timers!

Lauren, how could you not go if Wes is going to be there with Dee Dee?

I hope you all have a great race. : )

Be careful. IMO, I would also add "super dangerous" to the list as well for this race.

(a) No mount/dismount line and people mounting bikes in transition last year.
(b) People riding 3 or 4 abreast on the bike....I narrowly missed a head on collision last year with someone riding in the wrong lane of traffic at an intersection with riders coming from multiple directions.
(c) Were there any marshalls whatsoever on the course? I know it is not USAT certified, but geez.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I actually hammered this race last year so in theory I should love it. But I will never do it again due to what I perceive to be inexcusable neglect in set-up regarding pretty basic race safety features. JMHO, but please everyone that is doing this race be careful -- particularly on the bike.

And some splits would have been nice, too.

Seventy percent of this race is first timers. Of that, a large number are children. Be aware that a lot of people don't know what they are doing. If you remember that this one isn't meant to be "extremely competitive", you'll be fine...

I will be there. Kind of nervous about the apparent lack of organazation. It will be a good warmup for tr-the-parks next weekend. I talked to the RD today and he said that they have timing chips this year so there will be accurate splits. I asked him about wetsuits and he laughed  and said sure. I use mine whenever I can - Good luck everyone

I've done this race twice and I agree with the above poster; if you have fun, relax and remember that probably 70-80% of the people are brand-spankin' new to the sport then you'll be fine. It's a fun, fast race and the bike course is so much fun.

And I wouldn't use your wetsuit, you'll burn up......seriously. The swim course goes around the perimeter of the lake and they purposefully make it so the water is no more than 6 feet deep. Since it's been so dry, you should be able to see the bottom of the lake the entire time.

Good luck to all the first timers, you'll do great and have fun! This was my very first race and it ranks up there as one of the races I've enjoyed the most.

Mindy is spot on ... the water will feel like a bath as the entire lake is relatively shallow.  Beautiful course for first timers, who will be out in full force.  As such be very, very deliberate and attentive on the bike.

The rules during these races are very, very "relaxed" ... so you really have to be prepared for everything.

That said, it is a great location for a race that should be a lot of fun. I love to watch folks finish their first race. Plus they typically have stuff for the kids to do, so it is very family friendly.

I'm there too. I'm a running super-freak, so this will be my first induction into the world of triathlon. I practically live at Callaway Gardens, and run and bike there for the past 18 years, so it's home to me.

Should be a great one this weekend!

Good luck guys

Chris

Im still waiting for results to be posted on-line so I can post a race report. But I know I won my age group M40-44 and took almost 2 mins off last years time. Came in today at 45:26.

Nice job, Mr. The Cube :-) I just wanna know when you are going to graduate from my age group ;-) I took three minutes off my time from last year, 9th in AG and 48th overall. I do love this race as well. Over 1000 people this year, up from 700 last year. 60% female. That's just awesome. Next year should be even better!!!

Looks like your stuck with me for another year before I "age up" to the 45-49 group.
Im glad Dave Johnson announced that he is going to change the race to a mens & womens race. Men starting at maybe 7:45, women at 8:30.
The course is to small to have that many people on it at once.
Bike course is tight and tech, getting dangerous.

VERY easy tri. Super short (even shorter than listed) and VERY fun in regards to the whole family being invovled. It is NOT dangerous or poorly organized. That is BS. It is very popular and wel lattended. Any seriously competitive racer should actually be ashamed of themselves for competing in this race and then complaining about it. It's not for YOU! It isn't even a good workout for a serious racer (in my opinion). What it is = fun, familiy oriented, scenic, and easy. Only downside would be that there are too many racers but who cares?
