Veteran 249 | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic If anyone is interested in doing a ride on the Olympic course and then a lap around Nokomis on Wednesday, shoot me a PM. I will be there with a few friends around 5:30ish. We are meeting right by the parking lot where the transition area will be. Thanks, Andy |

Member 29 Minneapolis | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic I swam laps at the swimming area today and I think they widened the marked area from last year quite a bit. Last year I think it was about 75 yards and this year I think it is closer to 150 yards across. Either that or I am really swimming slowly. |

Eh...only 3 degrees away from 78 degrees. I'm gonna plan on getting a few non-wetsuit OWSs in just to prep... |

USAT requires 18 inches of depth in 3 different locations around the course in direct sunlight. They then take the average. It is going to be really close if we can use wetsuits or not. |

Veteran 246 Racine, WI | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic I just bought 4- 20lb bags of ice at Super America - gonna sneak down at midnite and dump it in Nokomis I think if a few of us do that everynight this week, that should keep the temps around 68-70. No, seriously, it'll be nice to swim somewhere warm. Lake Michigan has been cold 57F one day 60 the other time, Desoto triple T was COLD! |

Extreme Veteran 405 Shakopee, MN | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic I'll dump a few bags too, but I think that being a non-wetsuit event would be better for me. Swimming is my strong suit and if people "rely" on extra buoyancy with the wetsuit, I might pick up much needed time (that I will lose on the run...)

Veteran 249 | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic I think we are going to be good to go for wetsuits. I just got back from speaking with the owner of Gear West. He said they did some unofficial testing and the average temp was 74 a few days ago. I dont think the lake will get above 78 especially with the cold storm that just came through dumping all that rain. Now does anyone know how to make it not so windy on Saturday? |

Well, as long as the swim isn't windy, I'm o.k. with it...
Doesn't look like the wind picks up until noon...I'm hoping we'll all be done by then :

Extreme Veteran 552 Minnetonka, MN | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic Well, all I know is that having a 4-day old baby, 6 hours of sleep in the last 3 days, and not bringing the wetsuit all added up to still having a fun day. I came in at 2:52 on the Olympic course I was quite happy with that considering the sleep-deprivation. Oh, and all of you who teased me about only swimming a few times since my shoulder injury in March, rest assured that, no, none of the rescue personnel tried to pull me out of the water and save me!!! I took the swim REALLY easy, and my shoulder feels pretty good. I should have worn my wetsuit though. |

Extreme Veteran 461 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic I hope everyone had a great time today! I had a blast body marking people. Didn't find any BT people, but there was a lot of bodies to mark and a lot of volunteers working on it. If you went up to a goofy gal who was asking for social security numbers, phone numbers and $5 if you forgot to bring your race bib... well, that was my lovely GF. She's a hoot! |

This was my first Oly and, after more than a month of being sidelined due to an injury, I was thrilled to be able to compete and did NOT come in DFL! Congratulations to all! |

New user 9 | Subject: RE: Life Time Fitness Triathlon - Olympic My Husband told me that there are huge Muskies in Nokomis and at times they can be aggressive and actually bite. I know I was a little freaked when I did the OWS portion yesterday.. Right before I swam one of the volunteers laughed and said "Now don't let those Muskies bother you!!" |
