Wow!  20 peeps signed up for the Olympic alone...2 weeks out!

This race is HUGE!  Almost impossible to find anyone...I even lost track of my running group who I drove up with last year.

We usually hang out just west of the restrooms/'concession stand' in the grassy area under the shade of the trees.

I know it's a  hard race to try and meet up at, but I'll try and wear my white BT shirt with 'sparco' written on it in permanent marker...don't be afraid to stop me and say 'hi' if you see me...other than that, I'll be napping between transition close and Olympic start.

Good luck everyone...

Yep, big race (and pricey) but a fun one!!!!   I will be there too... hopefully they don't put us "oversize" types up by the pro transition again... right next to the stadium seating... lol...

I did not get an official reading, but I did step in the water earlier this week to feel how warm it is. I am assuming its in the low 70's right now. My parents have a place on Prior Lake and the water by their dock was 70 degrees yesterday and the water in Nokomis earlier in the week felt about the same. Hopefully we won't get a string of 90 degree temps before the race. If we dont, wetsuits maybe legal which would be great.

Thanks for the link Rob.  I did Turtleman (Oly swim distance) last year without a wetsuit...I'd much rather do Lifetime WITH one .  Here's the USAT rules:

USAT / Series Wetsuit Rules

All Set Up Events Series will follow the wetsuit guidelines set forth by USA Triathlon. Those guidelines state:

  • USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.
  • USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 - 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards.
  • If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may not wear wetsuits.

For Set Up Event Series scoring purposes:

  • If the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower everyone will receive series scoring points.
  • If the water temperature is between 78.1 - 83.9 degrees and you elect to wear a wetsuit, you will officially receive "0" points for that event. The event will count towards the minimum number of required events to become eligible for awards.
  • If the water temperature is 84 degrees or higher, no one may wear wetsuits and everyone will receive series scoring points.

question: I have a friend who isnt going to make it to the race and wants to transfer it to me...does Lifetime allow this? Also I want to change it from the sprint to the olympic. She is going to call and find out but I figure I might as well check myself.

Yes, in 2006 the water temp was 84 and you were not allowed to wear wetsuits. I was not there in 2007.

To your first question.....No, you are not allowed to transfer names.

You are allowed to transfer from sprint to olympic or vice versa for a $25 fee but its too late now. But regardless you can't transfer names so it does not much matter in your situation.

Last year the water was wetsuit legal, but just barely...I think it was 76 degrees...

So, I fly in on thursday 7/10 and would love to do an OWS either Thursday evening or Friday in the morning.

Anyone game for a 20-30min swim in Nokomis?

If not, hopefully you will see me...big guy with a lower leg tattoo sleeve.

My bf will be doing a relay with his coworkers again this year, so expect to see us hanging out by the restroom area. (I think that's where I met Sparco last year. )

My off day is Thursday.  I may get in a swim EARLY Friday morning before work (6:30).

You'll have plenty of company.  Last year I swam in Nokomis the day before LTF, and there were about 5 other triathletes swimming at 6:30 in the morning.  Most of us swam just inside/outside the white swim boundary buoys.  I'll have to check out the distance from far left buoy to far right buoy...I'm thinking it was about 77 yds...

Heh.  Funny how our memory alludes us...it was 78 yards, but it was 3 triathletes, and this fish story (I ended up finishing up the majority of the swim later that night at Lake Nokomis ):

51m 19s 2212.00 yards 02m 19s /100 yards

7:45pm 200 WU, 300 moderate on 20 sec rest, 600 moderate hard on 30 sec rest, 800 hard.

O.K., today I lost my man card.  Planned on doing a 3200 yd open water swim in Nokomis in prep for tomorrow's tri (swim leg of a relay...or was it just an attempt to outdo Mila's swim this week)...anyways, three other triathletes in the water.  I get in the water to swim...do 1 lap (buoy to buoy, 78 yds), start another lap and a gal is swimming towards me, so I keep my head up to sight and swim toward the right of her.  All of a sudden, I see this 'thing' following about 5 yds behind her.  It was a fish, its head looked like a northern, and judging from the size of it's head, I would guess the fish to be about 30 inches long.  I KID YOU NOT...this fish kept its head above water for about 10 yds!...(O.K., can some biologist on this site explain to me what this fish was doing?  Was this aggressive behavior...some weird feeding habit?)...I get to the opposite buoy and a guy's standing there in disbelief (as was I) next to another triathlete (female).  She didn't believe what he was describing.  He throws in the towel swims a length and leaves 'cause this fish freaks him out.  She leaves with him, and the other gal was leaving because her workout was done.  So here I am, all alone at Nokomis swimming laps between buoys, and I think to myself...'unh-unh...nope, I'm outta here.'  Wimp...312 yds in...shortest swim workout of the season...sorry, didn't mean to freak out anyone racing LTF tomorrow...plan on finishing up the last 2888 2889 yds at Calhoun this afternoon......(or back at Nokomis if they give me my man card back...)

Sal, that is a crazy story! I wonder what the heck that fish was doing??? I would've totally freaked out. I try real hard not to notice a single thing going on in the water when I'm swimming!

Remember people that I am body marking! I have super short sandy-brown-blonde (OK dishwater color) hair. Teeny, tiny gal. When do you all get your bib numbers? Cause I can be checking out numbers to find some of you.

Rode the Olympic route a few times today. Some parts are extremely fast and some parts you would be better off on a mountain bike the road is so rough. Keep on the lookout for pot holes.
