Sunny
Total Time = 2h 09m
Overall Rank = 189/431
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 28/48
Pre-race routine:

Again, close to home, so slept till 5:40 and up and final check of gear. Had a friend doing his first tri, so met up and made sure all was well... Noticed that the wind was right where expected!!! Easily 15+ knots and blowing down the long side of the lake, straight at the beach... white caps and all!
Event warmup:

Ran about 5 minutes at 10k pace. Got wetsuit on and got into the water to see how much timing vs. luck was going to be required. No bike warm up.
Swim
  • 17m 53s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was actually fun with 2'+ waves... I was more focused on relaxing than speed and thus the horrid results!!! By far much slower than I would expect. Had I pushed, I could/should have been in 2 minutes or so faster!
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do, it isn't often you get conditions like this to practice in... 30+ people were pulled out during the swim!
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

This one was ok at best... I had caught my wife on the swim and she was really struggling with getting her wetsuit off, so I stopped before I left to help her out...no more than 15 seconds or so, but it did impact.
What would you do differently?:

Swim a bit faster so I don't need to help my wife!!! LOL!!
Bike
  • 1h 09m 9s
  • 24 miles
  • 20.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good, but the results certainly didn't pan out...the return of the out and back was MUCH better! the first 11 miles were direct into the wind. with my "fresh" legs from a slower swim, I was able to maintain a reasonable speed, but could have pushed harder, the last 13 miles were too easy... should have pushed harder there too!
What would you do differently?:

push harder through the first 11 miles and then sit back and spin the last 13...
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Better T2... getting enough practice in where I don't have to think about it, just act.
What would you do differently?:

need to start looking at the off bike to bike rack and maybe try leaving shoes on teh bike? (Practice!!!)
Run
  • 37m 52s
  • 4 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Horrid run.. tried to make up for bad hydration on the bike and ended up hurting myself...
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate appropriately on the bike!
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and wait for Michelle and Shane to finish!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Head wasn't in the game today... should have been close to 2 hours overall!

Even if your head "wasn't in the game", still looks like a good race to me!  Nice work!

nice race !
I was there as a spectator (my son has done this race for 4 years). The conditions this year were incredibly challenging.
Congratulations to you - and to all who finished.
