Another vote for the Amphipod; much easier to deal with than fuel belts...just snap the bottles in instead of fishing them into elastic holders. Plus, you can expand the capacity as much as you'd like by just adding more bottles or gel flasks.

I used to do varied short loops back to my home, where I would have small containers of water waiting for me.  I would pick one up and carry it with me without stopping, dropping it off and picking up a fresh one at the end of each loop.  Each loop was different and was running in conditions similar to a closed road race, which has water stations.  This may not be the best system but it did work for me.

Well I carried my bike water bottle (22oz, not quite full) in my hand today for an hour, and it wasn't too bad. I like the Amphipod belt a lot, I think I'll get one now that I know what it's like to run with my water in hand.
