glazebal - 2008-07-07 6:39 PM Final words... Be ready to have to wait a couple hours to start the race... pack some nutritional goodies and liquids. I think I had to wait over 3 hours to start last year from the first wave. Expect to run for a while to transition. Some people took almost as long to get to and out of transition than most pros did the swim. There's 2 transition areas that are set up, and the yellow transition got the short end of the stick, as they had to go a good couple hundred meters to get to T1. Don't be afraid to walk up the hill to street level at the start of the run. It can ruin your day if you want to power through it.

Thanks for this great post. The more I hear about this race from others who have done it, the more prepared I feel and the less nervous I am. It sounds like it's going to be a really great experience, I can't wait.

Is it too early to start planning a BT meeting? We could meet on Race Day morning, but it might be more convenient to meet at the Expo or the Bike Drop.

I’ll be at the Expo on Friday afternoon and at the bike drop Saturday around 3 or 4pm.

Sorry I’ll be missing the underwear run. Maybe next year.

I don't think it's too early at all, the race will be here before we know it. I'm up for either of those days. I was planning the underwear run, but my friends bailed so I'm skipping it.

Be ready to be getting to transition bright and early

I think the best part about last years NYC Tri is that it was on my BDay. It was kinda like... Happy Birthday, no go kill yourself out on the course .

I did a tri on my birthday last year.  Most fun I've had.  One of the volunteers put "It's my birthday" on the back of my calf and I had people wishing me happy birthday all day.  I recommend it.

Anybody a Wall Street type? Anybody? Hello? Is this thing on?

I'm looking at possibly writing a story on the NYC tri and need a Wall Street type (that is, a CEO, or possibly a trader or even a Madison or 5th Ave type to profile. Preferably someone like the OP who's doing their first one!!!

PM me or I'll check back here.

Looks like the race for the mens' pro podium will be a good one: Andy Potts (New Jersey naitive--didn't know that) vs defending champ Greg Bennett. If you're in the last couple of waves, you've probably got time to watch them finish in the park, then catch a cab back over to the west side and still not miss your swim wave start.

I’d love to meet up with some other BT-ers. Here’s where I’ll be and when. If you think you might be around at the same time, let’s set up a place to meet?

Friday: I’ll be at the packet pick up/athlete briefing/expo extravaganza around 2pm or so. Was planning to hang out for a couple of hours.

Saturday: I’ll be in bike drop off land beginning around 2pm. I was planning to bring most of my transition stuff so that I can travel light on Sunday morning.

Sunday: I’m an early bird, so I’ll be there as early as I possibly can. I’ll probably head out of transition a little before it closes so that I can find a place to watch the pros go off on their waves. My wave starts no later than 6:15.

I'm going to briefing as early as I can Saturday, so hopefully I can get to bike check in at two. I hate lines, so I'm not looking forward to those.

Sunday, I'll be there bright and early. In actuality, it won't be bright considering I plan to get there at or close to 4am.

I'll be at the briefing on Friday afternoon as well. I haven't thought about the bike drop on Saturday and I'm sure I'll be one of the first to arrive on Sunday since I'll be a bundle of nervous energy!

I happen to work on Wall St (far from a CEO, however) and am doing the underwear run - unfortunately I missed out on registration for the actual race on Sunday. So, I doubt my 1.7 mile jog in the skivvies will be worth any notoriety.

About the underwear run ... due to a few events and extended bike rides (including 1 centruy ride a few weeks back), I have the most outrageous tanlines on my back and shoulders. Should make running topless a rather humbling experience.

I don't think I'll be able to get to the pre-race briefing until Saturday morning.  I'd like to get to the bike drop around 2.  I'm sure I'll be in transition pretty early.  I don't expect I'll be sleeping much on Saturday night.

I'm heading over to the expo middle to late afternoon on Friday.  Haven't set a time, but figure when I get fed up at work, I'll just walk over.

Bike drop on Saturday - not sure as I have to drive in, but looking to do that earlier as opposed to later.

Sunday morning (err, for me, late Saturday night) - I'm finding I probably have to get up around 3 a.m. to get showered and drive in.  I have about an hour drive (w/o traffic) and my wave looks to be going off around 7:30 or so.  I may take a nap near the start line.

(then again, I have thought about setting up my transition bag and have everything good to go in that arena on Saturday night, sleep in on Sunday and then arrive around 7:00 or so for my late wave start.  the other option is to sleep on the couch in the office next to mine and then just walk over to the race start Sunday morning)

Anyone heading over to the expo around 3 or so on Friday, shoot me a pm or my email is "tbechen" at gmail dot com - would definitely be up for meeting up.

If you see some idiot walking around in a powder blue tuxedo t-shirt, don't be afraid. It's just me. If I can find one, I'll even make a lunchbox name tag. Stop me to say hi, I'll be looking for a distraction.

I'll be milling around transition hopefully as soon as it opens and I'm in one of the last few waves to go off.
