Has anyone here on this forum, been to one of these free clinics? Are they worth attending? They're on Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm. There was one last night, but I was working and couldn't go. I think there is another one coming up on August 5th...I'm planning on going to that one. Is this clinic good for a first-timer looking for some OWS experience? Their website says they have wetsuit rentals for $5 at the OWS clinics...but that's it's a first-come, first-served basis. Does anyone know if they run out of sizes quickly at these clinics? I'd be coming from the suburbs, so it might take me awhile to get there...but I'll plan to leave earlier if they tend to run low on the wetsuits.

I saw the group up there on Tuesday night. It looked like they were giving some good instruction and seemed to know what they were talking about.

It was crazy though becuase the waves were so high that I opted to cop out after 500 meters. Really you should call Fleet Feet for specifics.

I went to the first one last month, but it's hard to say as the swim portion got rained out... and we basically only got told how to put on a wetsuit which we all had to take off just as it started hailing.

There weren't a ton of people getting wetsuits and they had a good # of them, so unless your an odd size like me they should have something to fit you. They only had one XL athena though last time I rented one.

I attended the one last week (July 22) and for me it was of no value.  If you have never done any OWS it might be useful.  They only provided very basic information and it started about 20m late.

Thanks for all the info, guys and gals! I picked up my own wetsuit over the past weekend. Took a drive over to Mission Bay in the city, and bought a Blue Seventy Reaction full sleeved. Almost plunked down the coin for the Helix, but since I'm on a tight budget (and also a newbie)...thought I'd better go with the less expensive suit for starters. The girl at the store fit me into a women's medium - even though I felt I should be wearing a large. We'll see how it works next Saturday, as I've decided to forego the Fleet Feet clinic on Tuesday and instead go to the one held on Saturday by Tri-Umph. It's just way easier for me to get down to the lakefront on a Saturday morning vs a Tuesday evening. Thanks again everyone!

HI Linda,
That's the same wetsuit I have and so far so good.
What's the clinic on Sat am. What time etc. I might be interested in that. After my complete freak out at Racine I definitely need to get in the lake more often.

Hi Susie,

Here is the info on the OWS clinic that I'm planning to attend next Saturday, Aug. 2nd.

It would be great if you came out - would love to finally meet you! Plus I'd like to hear about your experience at Racine. Hope you can make it!
