Pre-race routine:

After the disaster that was the morning of the Pewaukee race I made sure that I got all my crap together last night and packed in the car so that all I would need to do is get up, get dressed, and eat. Ate peanut butter and honey sandwich and sipped on some GE. Left the house around 4:15 and headed out to Ottawa Lake. Didn't need to get there that early as they were still setting up, but I know it would help me get my head in the game.
Event warmup:

Rode a couple of miles and swam a little to get loose. ALso chatted with the donks and other people that I know that were racing.
Swim
  • 07m 51s
  • 650 yards
  • 01m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

My wave started after the Athena/Clyde/Elite wave. I caught at least half of the wave ahead of me before the first bouy and lost some time on the swim trying to get around people that were treading water and clogging up the turns. Had to push hard at a couple points to try to get through some gaps.
What would you do differently?:

I may had started a little fast, other than that with the swim being my strong suit I am happy with this.
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

I was having a problem getting my suit unzipped, so that cost me some time as I had to walk and try to really yank on the zipper to get it undone. Once I got is unzipped I got out of the suit quickly and got on with my business.
What would you do differently?:

Not have the zipper stick.
Bike
  • 37m 9s
  • 14.25 miles
  • 23.01 mile/hr
Comments:

I decided before the race that I was going to swim and bike hard and then take it easy on the run. Got up to speed on the bike and just started hammering. Started passing people and not getting passed. Saw mutri at the turn around and decided to keep hammering and try my damndest to catch him. Caught up to him around mile 9 or so and just kept the hammer down. Roads were really kinda decent until the last stretch where it was really bumpy.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I planned on hammering, so I did.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

This was a little slower than I wanted, and I ran back to get my Garmin after I forgot it which is hindsight was idiotic.
What would you do differently?:

Leave the Garmin, I don't think it cost me the AG win, but it would have cut the gap.
Run
  • 22m 14s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

As I mentioned above the plan was to hammer the swim and bike and then take the run easy as I have Steelhead in 5 days. Well as I was coming in on the bike I realized that I was probably closer to lead than I have ever been before, so I decided to just run as hard as I could. If I would have know just how close I was I would have tried to puch even harder, but I am still happy with this time. I was passed by the guy that won my AG in the last 4-500 yards and just could not keep up with him.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder had I know just how close to cracking top 3 overall and the top spot in my AG.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, talked to donks and others, ate some food and watched people finish and wait for the awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure.

Event comments:

Couple of the things that were done my the race organizers were a little effed up in my opinion. Luckily I know the RD, so I will be chatting with him. I think it was too much to have the Super Sprint, Sprint, and Oly on the same day. It caused some problems on the bike and run course with people taking the wrong turns and accidentally cutting the course.

I knew when you told me you were going to be taking it easy on the run, that wasn't happening. Excellent race! Congrats on the hardware and being in the top 5.
