Total Time = 2h 30m 16s
Overall Rank = 31/140
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/17
Pre-race routine:

Set-up, marked up, fuel up (fuel out) suit up.
Event warmup:

Got in the water to swim. Pretty warm. Kinda surprised it was WS legal. Fine with me. The air temp was a little chilly and I was happy to be in the wet suit.
Swim
  • 31m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

I can't say much here. I didn't struggle but I never found a good rhythm either. I will say that there were several times that I tried to get on feet that were going slower than me and then when I would go to pass - they wouldn't let me - or at least it appeared like it.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Good transition slot. First race with shoes clipped in. Took a sec to get all in and going. part of that was from all the cornering from the parking lot out onto the course but it allowed me to mentally plot my return.
What would you do differently?:

Get the freakin wet suit off!
Bike
  • 1h 10m 44s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Good course until the return road (HWY 67?). Rattled some fillings. Ouch. Big seems in the road.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Little victories. Never fully braked and hit the dismount area in full stride. That was cool.
What would you do differently?:

A little quicker getting out of shoes.
Run
  • 45m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Had to pee. Had to go from the beginning of the swim. Couldn't relax to go in the water and once I'm out of the water just not willing to go on myself. With the updated time reporting it looks like it cost me three AG places as I had to pull of for about a minute (only 6 seconds separated 5,6,and 7 in my AG). Otherwise I felt great on the run. I was watching calves on the run and can't believe I didn't see the two guys in front of me. I'm pretty sure I could have caught them had I know I was only 2 and 6 seconds behind my nearest competitors. Crap.
What would you do differently?:

Pinch it off and suffer I guess.
Post race
Warm down:

Water over head, water in body, grab hand full of Oreos. Grab recoverite. Walk around talk to folks and head out to cheer Jen.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My bladder.

Event comments:

Good race. First time at this venue. Great venue. Glad we did a lot of investigating the day prior. The volunteers were great but with three races going on at the same time the course was a little tricky and easy to get confused. But again, the volunteers were great. Good spirited and willing to help.

Course: Mostly flat. Some rollers. Two loops. There was an in the road 180 switch back - slow part of the course...in order to do this we came off a slight downhill made a sharp right turn then up a short hill and then made the switchback. With two loops we had to do this twice. Why not just cut the course short and call it a day. But that's what makes every race and every course interesting. Fine with me.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen "my bladder" specifically called out as a performance limiter.    And that's why I enjoy reading your race reports.

Looking forward to pp!
