Well, my season may be over sooner rather than later. I started experiencing some serious neck pain earlier this month. I finally broke own and saw the doctor. Disc issues. I am on 12 day course of steroids and hopefully, that will solve it. But I don't know. I am hoping my season isn't over but only time will tell.

MRI is scheduled for tuesday afternoon. I had acupuncture on thursday and felt good for about 24 hours and I have started hurting again.

The doctor believes it is either a degenerative disc or herniated disc. I am seriously hoping my season isn't over, but we shall see.

Has anyone ever had anything like this.

Sorry to hear this. Although I don't have the exact same back issue as you...I can totally relate to being side-lined with back problems. I have grade 2 spondylolisthesis at L5/S1...have had it most of my adult life. My last MRI also showed degenerative disc disease and stenosis. I've managed to keep the pain to a "tolerable" level with the daily use of an inversion table at home. But there are certain occasions, when the pain is agonizing. I stretch a LOT, and that helps immensely. I hope your recovery goes well and that you'll be back to training again soon.

What was the result of the MRI? Just curious. I can relate somewhat with a herniated disc several years back. Terrible sciatica down my left leg. Couldn't walk more than about 20 feet without basically crumpling. After a microdiscectomy, I could walk well enough again but switched to biking for many years. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I picked up running again. Completed my second marathon not too long after that and then got into tris. Hopefully, with yours in your neck, you'll recover fast and pick back up next season. And perhaps you'll be able to do some form of cross training after your recovery. Good luck!

Result was this. I have inflammation at C3 an C4 that is pressing on the spinal cord causing a crap-load of pain. It has gotten to the point that I can't work, (I do massage.) I can't pick my daughter up. I was told nothing that could jar my neck for 3-6 months. I can still ride my bike on the trainer but my A race and MS150 are now gone. I started training in January so I could be in the best shape possible or me in October. Oh well. I'll do it next year.
