Only curious - cuz I know how to fix.

I made a LONG route, and it stated that I had 35,000 feet of climbing.  WOW!  that's a lot.  But I also knew it was wrong.  So I hit the "reset elevations" and it recalced to the correct amount (back checked with the race web site).

That made me wonder if my other routes were wrong.  Sure enough, after reseting them all, the climbs were reduced.

Why the initial error (which is significant?).  Should there be a warning or note for other users who may have not noticed this?  Or is there a warning which I didn't notice?

Thanks.

The short answer to "why" is "poor design".

The slightly longer answer is that it was my first foray into that particular type of programming and the way to correct it is to basically rewrite the whole thing. I hope to do that later this year with the goals of improving performance dramatically and adding a goodly number of new features. I'm not thrilled with the UI either, that needs a major overhaul.

Technically, it's a matter of timing. We get the map/distance data from Google and the elevation data from a USGS database. When you click on the map we get the data from Google, then use that to go to the USGS database to get the elevation and then do the Climbing calculations. If you click on the map before that data comes back the numbers can get awry.
