Sunny
Total Time = 1h 54m 32s
Overall Rank = 31/119
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/11
Pre-race routine:

Stayed with a friend in town. Woke up just after five, had half a power bar and an OJ. Showered, packed, and left for the site at 6:00. Got to the park, set up transition, and just hung out.

There was a small disaster avoided the night before. I had forgotten to take the pads off my aerobars when I drove up Friday night. They are probably laying somewhere on Hwy 25 right now. So, with all the bike shops being closed, I had to improvise. Knee pads for football pants cut down and held in place with a few wraps from electrical tape. Looked ugly, but it was effective.
Event warmup:

A little swimming.
Swim
  • 15m 39s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

They measured LONG. It does not take me over fifteen minutes to do a half mile, and seeing that I was still one of the fastest swims lets me know I didn't just have a terrible day. It was off by at least 200 yards.

In fact, I had a great swim, passing all but about 10 of the 56 swimmers that started in front of me. So really, the long measurement was good for me.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Tried the flying start with the shoes on the pedals for the first time. No issues (thank goodness) There was a seriously steep hill up to the transition area out of the water that I ended up having to walk up. Otherwise, this time would have been much better.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 56s
  • 22 miles
  • 20.65 mile/hr
Comments:

A real excercise in shifting, both up and down the cassette and on the big and small rings. Very fun and technical course. Really enjoyable.
What would you do differently?:

I took my feet out of my shoes when we turned back into the park. I had forgotten there was still another 3/4 mile to go, so that was a goof on my part.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Wasted some time dumping half a bottle of water on my head, but the temps were starting to soar and I really needed it.
Run
  • 32m 22s
  • 3.6 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Once again, not being able to run fast kills me. However, my runs are steadily improving, so I'm happy. I couldn't find the 5k pace I wanted, but I found a comfortable stride to deal with the hills. Basically it was three long steep inclines. Pretty tough run.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice cold wet towel and some walking around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat.

Event comments:

Small race, possibly because the largest in the state was the previous weekend, but very organized. Probably my favorite course of all the tris I've done so far. Oh, and an excellent pizza buffet at the finish.

I didn't race it but had a friend who did and he said it was a pretty tough course and the heat made it all the more difficult.

I had the same thing happen to my aerobar pads earlier this summer and ended up folding up some paper towels and wrapping it in place with duck tape. It work well!

Good race!

Yikes!  Awesome tri!  I think those are great times in all events.  Your transitions are lightning fast.  How do you do that?  (I'm too busy trying to finish peeing in T1 )

Great job on the race!  Nice job on passing the people during the swim.

I attached my aero bar pads with spray adhesive.  They haven't come off since them even with leaving the bars on while the bike is on the roof.

Ummm???? (puzzled look on face)

You showered before heading to a race????
I hope it was more to help wake you up, than to make sure you smelled clean before jumping in the lake.

Nice job!!!

Nice job Sesh.  I, too, would like to know how your transitions are so fast.  Enjoy your few days off.
