Run
Comments: Paced myself right out of the blocks with a really consistent guy, stayed on his heels through mile 2. Then let him go as he picked up the pace. I never expected to be on a 9 minute pace then let it slip back a bit for mile three. Didn't really hurt until about .6 left. Ran the whole way, felt a little off, not as smooth as I have in training even on longer runs. But I was happy to finish in under 30 which was the goal. What would you do differently?: Get more runs in at race distance so the last few hundred meters would not be as painful. Stretch more. Maybe ride to the race site in Hillsboro, that would get the legs nice and loose. Also I took some Aleve right in the AM when I got up, b/c I was concerned about my right foot pain. Seemed to help, had no pain at all before, during or after the race. Used the inserts in the AM and PM post race. Felt good. Would try the next one without the Aleve. Post race
Warm down: Fluids and walking, stretching a little which felt really good. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Lack of familarity with the distance. Event comments: Had fun, well orgnanized, would do again. Hope to have more people there. Nice goodie bag, not a lot in it, but Sweatshirt was really nice. Won a pint glass with logo on it for age group third place. Last updated: 2005-01-06 12:00 AM

Lots of water in the AM, arrived in shorts, T and a wind breaker. Checked in, walked, drank some more water, shed the jacket just before the gun.
Did a very little bit of light jogging prior to. Everyone else was doing a lot of jogging before, psyched me out a little, felt as though I needed to do a bit of running before, even though it was probably not necessary.
