Overall Rank = 144/1163
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 12/112
Pre-race routine:

First alarm went off - waking me from a deep sleep. Rolled over and debated getting up, decided to wait for second alarm (15 minutes later) as it was dark out and starbuck's not open yet....Then got up went to Starbuck's for the caffeine fix.
Event warmup:

Rode to venue - about 5-6 miles, set up transition. Found AJ then went for a short run...

Swim
  • 21m 33s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I easily swam an extra 400 - my internal GPS was way off - I had been sighting well and then must have gotten cocky about it - and after drafting off someone went all the way over to the wrong side of the river. I think the spectators on that side were feeling left out - yeah that's it - my misdirection thrilled them - they yelled wrong way - but of course I did not hear this until I looked up to sight. Really I needed the extra swim distance as Chicago is in 3 weeks and the 1 mile swim is scaring me. Well that is my story and I am sticking to it.
What would you do differently?:

not stray off course!
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

I was REALLY far from bike in/out still 5th in division for T1
Bike
  • 48m 29s

  • 21.50 mile/hr
Comments:

fun bike course - only one who passed me was a pro doing her second loop. some blocking as usual. one woman when I yelled left (she had TONS of room to move over) made some snarky comment to me and then another as I was dismounting.
What would you do differently?:

learn to get out of shoes on bike
Transition 2
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

this is one of those races where I had to run the entire length of transition with my bike both in and out - it would have been nice to be able to run barefoot - I need to learn to get out of my shoes on the bike....
What would you do differently?:

learn to get out of shoes on bike
Run
  • 28m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

had a whole right side cramp - like a side stitch but it was low - first I thought it was wherever my race belt was - so I kept shoving it lower, but then it just settled in - vague pain there today too - might be leftover from thursday's GI bug
What would you do differently?:

run faster
Post race
Warm down:

none

What limited your ability to perform faster:

being a novice

Event comments:

for a women's only race it is fine - not sure I would do another - missed the boys - no pace booty....

Awesome race Cat! Getting in top 10% overall is not shabby to say the least. Considering you went between 5-10 mins off the swim course things should have been even better! You will be fine for Chicago, just go into it with confidence! At least you will have some pace booty there

Great race Cat!

Top 10% of the field in a very large field rocks

We all learn stuff at every race or we should. I want to learn that in and out of shoe on the bike technique too. We can practice on the grass and do a lot of laughing..need someone to teach us..hmmm

Nice of you to say hi to the fans on the other side of the river

Nice race..the shoe thing is EASY PEASY....involves elastics and practice.  I do not do any flying dismounts....but I am quite adept at taking my shoes off and on while biking.  I can even take my feet out, and take my sokcs off then put the shoes back on.....Now the whole drinking out of a regular bike bottleis a bit of a mysetry to me but there it is Hope you had a great time at the race

You continue to put up great numbers every time out.

Garmin should work your internal GPS idea.

Congratulations on a good race. I was down there volunteering Saturday and Sunday and it was a great atmosphere. One thing, you have 17.37 miles listed for the bike course, is that what your bike computer said? The distance is listed as 15.5 miles.

yup I did not turn on my powertap until I was on the bike - so I went with its numbers as I am more sure of its accuracy.  Plus my speed was 21 mph average (not the 19 and change that a 15.5 mile course would work out to).

Nice job again Cat.  Really good finish overall and age group for your fan favorite swim.  You'll get the run quicker too but it's definitely getting faster.  I'm not talking to you about the bike as I'm too jealous.

You are going to kill Chicago!
