I've seen a lot of similar complaints about other seat post mounted bottle holders (including the profile design one). I haven't heard any solutions aside from taking it off and using frame mounted cages, but you should know you're not alone.

It's the cages which are the problem. Buy cheap meal cages you can crunch down really tight and it will happen a lot less.

I know I've posted a pic of my set-up somewhere on here before, but I've NEVER had a bottle eject. In fact, the whole cage would have to eject for the bottle to go...  But I can't find the picture now, so I'll post this one and just say that mine is similar, except the bottles point forward (and are extremely easy to grab riding aero.

I have a hydrotail and it happened every now and then. I got sick of it even though it wasnt that common so I rigged something up.  I put some velcro around the skinny part of the hydrotail and looped that through 2 pieces of shoe lace which were long enough to go over the top of the bottle (the part you drink from).  I was just thinking about this tonight and maybe something w/ elastic would work better.  The shoe laces will hold it in place and when you want to drink you just slide it off the top.  Put the bottle back in and slide the loop over it again.  Works perfectly.  I dont have a pic, but can post one if the description doesnt make sense.

I put a rubber band around the bottles and haven't had a problem. It is also pretty easy to get too bottles while riding.

I use a rubber band to keep the bottles from ejecting.  Downtube bottle is primary, and when empty, I swap with the bottle from the Xlab and put it on the downtube.  If the rear bottle is ejected, its just a lost bottle since it was empty.

bachorb - 2008-08-24 10:57 AM I added some rubber bands to the cages and although I noticed some improvement, I still jetted a bottle yesterday. There is still some up and down play in the hydrotail, though (maybe 2-3 mm worth). I am thinking of wrapping the seat rails in duct tape to try get a tighter fit - anyone tried that?

i've never tried this myself, but i've heard of people putting a small piece of sandpaper at the top of the cages.  It adds friction.  Like I said, i've never needed it, but it sounds like it would help.

i too had this problem with the profile designs/xlab setup, and i resolved the issue by throwing the profile design cages in the garbage (where they belong, IMHO)

i switched over to specialized cages and never had a problem again.....

I replaced my carbonfiber cages with the metal (aluminum?) cages on my hydrotail.

I bent the cages slightly for a tighter fit around the water bottles and have not had a single bottle eject.
