as someone who is over 250 pounds I need to find a treadmill that can handle some weight. We had a nordic track one for years but it finally died - and I would like to replace it. The repair guy we had look at it said to go with the sears brand because replacement parts were easier to get ....

so - what do you folks suggest or use on a regular basis? Have you bought one recently?? Costs???

thanks.... gotta get ready for the winter now....

I bought a Precor 9.31 last winter and have nothing but good things to say about it.  I did nearly every single long run leading up to Boston on it and my legs held up much better than my prior model or being outside in 2 feet of snow .  It was expensive, around $3000, but if you think about how much you spend on other equipment and how long it will last, it is a bargain.

I am pretty small, but my husband is about 180lbs and it held up well for him as well.  The belt is pretty wide and long which we both like.

Norditrack has the c2155 on sale for 599.

That's the one I'm purchasing. The reviews on sears are good.

I'm poor so I can't spend much. This is a sacrafice already. But I realize I need it in my home to consistently train. so there.

last up...bike trainer.

My advice - DON't buy a new treadmill.  They are high turnover items, meaning that many people buy them on impulse and can't/won't build up the habit necessary to fully utilize them.  Look for used treadmills that are heavy-duty rated through craigslist, classifieds, ebay, and the like.  You'll likely find a low-use, high quality treadmill at a reasonable price.

The obvious sacrifice is the warranty.  Of course, some manufactures (I believe) have transferable ones.

Check with your local recreation center to see how often they rotate out their equipment and the process they go through when getting rid of it.

In my facility many of the treadmills I replace are still in good working order but are replaced according to a "lifespan" we place on them.  Those treadmills that are removed are sent to a surplus warehouse where they are auctioned off.  They are great b/c they are popular major namebrands that can take a great deal of abuse and last a longtime (I've seen LifeFitness TM's go for 10 years and manymany miles).

I know that there are also warehouses out there that sell re-furbished commercial equipment.  (google it, I know there's one out of Denver that has a good reputation)

Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions.... after being in rec centers for the past years, I've gotten to know my commercial grade TM's pretty good.

BTW... Precor is also a VERY reputable brand....

I just got a Sole F80 last week which handles upto 350lbs and I'm really liking it. It has a health club treadmill feel to it.

I decided to splurge on something halfway decent as I had a treadmill years ago and it was horrible and rickety and I ended up not using it. The cheap ones really aren't worth it if you're going to be running at all.

They have a less expensive SoleF63 that is 1k and handles to 325lbs. I tried it out and it didn't feel much different then the one I got, but I decided to get the extra HP for running and the better warranty on the F80 (Plus I liked the Heart Rate Autopilot feature)

Well I spent many hours researching and was going to buy a Sole, but coudl not find one to run on.  So I tried a Precor and it was nice, but high priced.  Next to it was a Pacemaster, so I ran on it.  I bought it and have no complaints.  I was 260+ when I started bouncing on it.  IT holds up and runs good.  It does not have a bunch of bull crap ( IMHO) like fans and LCD screens.  It does have some built in programs and a constant effort mode.

Very good warranty, good parts, made in USA and has Wife approval factor for sitting in our bedroom.

You can download the manuals at the website and check it out.

I think I googles Treadmills reviews and ratings and there was Treadmill Doctor and one other site that had real in depth inofrmation.  No advertisments from manufactures

Cosco has the Ironman series available. Anyone know anything about those? Are they worth it? Thanks.
