Ask yourself why you are doing it. Most likely it has something to do with trying something new, pushing yourself, surprising yourself, and having fun. For your first race, 10 minutes, 20 minutes here or there on a finish time is immaterial. Choose to chill out and just have fun with it. My recent goals are to finish my next race with a smile, and if that means a slower race, I don't care, b/c speed isn't the goal. And if you have to play the 'what's the worst that will happen game?', do it. So you have to walk up a huge hill on the bike, no one cares. So you have to walk in the run, no big deal, etc. Bring it back to what it is you're nervous about and handle the objections. |
