Subject: What tools do I need to put a cassette on a wheel?

I have most work done at LBS but it is time for me to start doing my own work.  I am buying a PowerTap 2.4 with wheel and plan to put the cassette on the wheel myself.  BUt have no idea what tools are needed.

Guess I will be buying some tools

The Spin Doctor Cassette Locking and the Spin Doctor Chain Whip.

My favorite website for Bike Tools and repair info is Park Tools.

http://www.parktool.com/index.asp

Cassette info here: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=48

IMHO, Park makes the best quality bike tools.

Get a cassette tool which has a stick to insert in the axle versus one which simply fits the splines. So much easier to use.

Don't get this:

Get this instead:

Or any other brand which has that stabilizing pin.

A chain whip is required to remove, but not to install a cassette.

Technically, you only need the lockring tool to put a cassette on.  However, if you need to take it off, you need both.

Also, I use a cog wrench instead of a chainwhip.  A cog wrench is less flexible for different sized cassettes (MTB and road bike compatibility), but its a more secure fit, IMO.  Both work fine.

Your LBS probably has them in Park tools the same price or cheaper taking into account shipping.
