I'm not getting the feed, what's this foot flip you speak of?

It is a very pronounced 'rotation' of her right foot as she pushes off. Looks like at least 45 degrees.

Interesting. I have a structural issue with one of my feet and so I can't rotate it forward properly, like push off straight, it always rolls out to the side and is kind of floppy. It's very very easy to spot when you watch me run. I need to find video or a pic...maybe there's hope for me afterall (has caused some injury issues, but we seem to have them under control - fingers crossed) .

She was a breaststroker for many years--collegiate at USC. Part of the unusual gait pattern. May also be related to her hip fracture during IMNZ.

The coaches who attempted to "fix" it generally made her running slower and worse.

I agree, it's painful to watch. It's further evidence that running form doesn't mean much.

We were watching some old IM videos at the shop the other day. I forgot how "ugly" Dave Scott's running style was, as he put down a sub-2:50 IM marathon.

I had noticed the same thing with Hillary today. I was amazed at that running gait. I guess that just proves "do what works for you "

Easy....

In her early years, it was used to kick underaged boys to the curb.

Now, it's a weapon. No wonder she didn't get passed.

Tis true. No matter how you throw down the time, throw it down. Just be fast.

Although in some corner of the earth, Bob Stocks really, really wanted to accompany Hillary on that run. He could have, too.

She did get passed.  She lost the lead with about 5 miles to go and when I went by her going the other way she was bout 30 seconds down.  She looked in major pain and  I thought there was no way she would win.  I was amazed to hear she did it.

It's funny....my foot does a very similar "flip" to hers, albeit at a much slower pace. My wife thinks that it is funny and hazes me about it all the time.

I don't have any old war injuries to blame it on, either. It is just the "way" I run and, to me, the "way" I run obviously feels natural. Just looks kinda goofy.

A friend of mine is friends w/ her and her family.  Apparently she had some hip problems at some time or another, and thats where it stems off from.  It is really weird though.  I was running behind her for a while during the race and was in a trance watching her foot flip out like that.
