There is no way I can do the Zipp, HED,... bling bling build So I am looking at choices similar to the Velocity Deep V, Mavic Open Pro, Mavic CXP33 for a touch more aero"ness," or the DT Swiss RR 1.2.

Anybody have any opinions on these with the assumptions that they will mostly be on my tri bike (some early season roadie use) and I would get the disc cover for racing?

How about the 2009 PT models - anyone hear when they will be available to the public?

Any of those wheels would work, but then add a dsisc cover for races and you'll be set.

I have the Velocity Deep V.  Laced w/32 spokes.  Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it (or wheelbuilder.com who built it for me).  Don't worry about the "aeroness" since you'll have the disc cover.

what i have heard is I would wait for the 2009 to come out. Some technology difference or improvement.

I guess I'll just call Wheelbuilder and see what he sugests.  I'd like to wait for the new models but am worried about them pushing back the release date.  I don't have a need for the ANT+ now but it sure would be nice.  I don't know if they have made any other improvements to it (more waterproof?) or not.  Perhaps I'll wait until at least Interbike is over and see what news come out.

AFAIK, there haven't been any improvements in the mechanicals of the PT since the wired SL became more waterproof vs. the older Pro models.  Of course, now you can get wireless if you prefer.  And, supposedly ANT+ support sometime next year.  That should help create some decent deals on used PTs that have less "whizz-bang", but are every bit as good at their main function.

Come on, you know you're going to want the ultra premium model with ceramic bearings.
