After reading the interview with Chrissie Wellington, I really hope she wins Hawaii again.  She seems very down to earth and is very funny.

I just can't seem to get on the Wellington bandwagon.  She's the flavor of the year.

I'm still pulling for McGlone come October.

I definitely laughed out loud at her answers.

Interviewer: Can you share with us some of your food likes and dislikes?

Chrissie: I like food, and dislike not having any!

Her blog is freakin' hilarious, too, if you get bored at work one day.  She has compared the ironman to a german sausage.

I think her sense of humor is great, I watched coverage of the world championships in Holland on the net a couple of weeks ago and at one point when a camera crew on a motor cycle rode along side her for ages she ended up asking for a lift lol.

She also spent alot of time encouraging other racers as she passed them on the laps of the run and always with a huge smile on her face.

I hope she does herself justice in Kona, one things for sure what ever happens I don't think she'll lose her smile.

Eh, bandwagon or not, I love Chrissie.  And she has proven this year she is no fluke.

Just watched Kona 2007 again last night, watching her ride without an aero helmet, running without a hat, smiling, high fiving people..... all the stuff "slow" people do

And the interview is awesome

Met her at Timberman this year.. even in person she is so nice and friendly.. one of her quotes was that she is always surprised when people know who name.. she has def. not let winning go to her head at all .. I think Brett Sutton keeps his athletes very grounded.. and out on the course she is amazingly fast and focused .. running hard she wasn't smiling but pushing herself super hard, u can see it in this pic I took far out on the run where I was "quasi" volunteering so no spectators around..

She also did an interview on IronManTalk Podcast last week (episonde 125 http://ironmantalk.com/triathlon_news.html).

Shedoesn't even have a P3 yet and her coach wants her to learn to ride properly before she gets one. That's scary!

The joke in our neighborhood (I live amongst many triathletes), is:

"I thinking I'm gaining a few pounds, I might start running..."

from Chrissie's quote from how she got started.

If your not on this bandwagon you either don't have a sense of humor or are just bitter seeing someone so happy. Good god, what's not to love about her.

Any newcomer who can make a name for themselves at Kona is a hero in my book.

I agree, bandwagon or not she is an amazing athlete hence I posted the same link on IM a few days ago. What she has accomplished this year beating her opponents impressively and the crazy fast time she got at Timbeman a very tough course was just crazy. Probably among the fastest 70.3 ever in a course like that.

But what seems more appealing of her is how fun and down to earth she seems on her interview and blog. I think I am becoming a fan

I met Chrissie at Timberman too and she truely is one very nice and down to earth person. During the race I recognized who she was as she was, cruising towards the 12 mile mark and start cheering her on like mad (and I even got a smile out of her ). About 2 hours after the race I wander over to the board where they have the results posted and there she is, away from all the other pros hanging out with age groupers talking to everyone, signing stuff, taking pictures. I got her to autograoh my number (too bad I didn't have a camera).
Also in a fairly major race she finished 6th overall and would have qualified for the IM 70.3 World Championship as a Male Pro. She ran the 5th fastest half marathon split overall and when I saw her she made it look easy. She is incredible.

This sport is really fortunate to have people like Chrissie and Natasha Badman to promote it. Both are amazing atheletes, both are World Champions, and both go out of their way to encouage and mingle with the regulars AGers and are infectiously positive.
