This may be way early to post, but I found out the following info today.

I sent an email to Craig who ran the Paint Creek 50 K which was very informal 50 K towards the end of January and he informed me that he's not going on with it for 2009. I was kinda of looking forward to trying 25 k this winter.

With that being said I was curious if any BT'ers wanted to make a very informal BT long run this winter. I won't be able to do 50 K, but I was thinking somewhere like Kensington would work where we could do 2 loops and make it more beginner friendly for folks that may want to only do 1 loop of 8 miles instead of the longer distances, and the metroparks always have some bathrooms open with the shorter multi loop set up we could have more BT'ers show up that aren't ready to run further then 8 miles. Then maybe grab a sandwich and brewski or pop at a local bar afterwards.

If we had more east siders interested we could always do Stony Creek, I assume they try to clear the paved path and have some restrooms open on there loop too. Maybe one of the locals on the east side know for certain. I'm not certain on how long the paved trail is???

At this point I'm looking at the last weekend of Jan and Feb (Jan 31 and Feb 1) or (Feb 28 March 1) Of course this is very dependent on some half decent weather.

I know it's way out there but will there be any interest out there? Are there any folks going to be looking at an early season marathon needing to do some long runs. Is Matt doing the Martian full mary again? His training seemed to get us together a lot last winter.

Sounds awesome! there is also a run at the poto the end of the year if you kids are interested. That would be a great place to hold a run, it is absolutely beautiful in the winter and we can do loops there as well.

I'd totally be interested.  I am keeping the martian 1/2 mary on my radar as a goal.

Stoney does a nice job of keeping the paved trail clear.  It is a 6 mile loop.  Its a very nice run and I would totally support something on the east side.

A semi-organized event at Kensington sounds good.

For regular winter workouts we've been running on Hines Dr. (shoulder, not path) for long-ish base runs (1.5 - 2 hours *slow*) for the last 2 years...it is kept clear and I think we only had to go indoors twice due to weather. Maybury trails are great when the snow's packed, so we'd mix it up by going there. Tortoise and the Hare in A2 also has a monthly long run organized starting in January...including the "Unofficial Marathon and Half Marathon", usually late Feb - early March. The good thing about those is that they have aid stations every 3 or so miles with drinks, gels, and port-o-potties...and sales afterwards in their store.

I'm in Rottie. We've gotta wait for the coldest day of the year though.

That's a bummer about Paint Creek 50k is cancelled.  I wanted to do that this year.

I'd like to join in this winter. No more hibernating in a food/drinking coma this winter.

I'm down for some winter running. The colder the better I'd even love to get in another casual group ride before I put the bike on the trainer for the winter (I cringe just thinking about that).

At this point I'm looking at the last weekend of Jan and Feb (Jan 31 and Feb 1) or (Feb 28 March 1) Of course this is very dependent on some half decent weather.

Since there's obvious interest, will have to do something on both weekends. Maybe 8 or 16 at Kensington on the first weekend, then a road trip to the east side for 6, 12 or 18 at Stony Creek or vica versa. Hopefully we can fit in a drink and meal afterwards.

Sorry for quoting myself, it's kinda of creepy like talking in the 3rd person.

I'll completely run it on Paint Creek if that's to the run of choice. I live <1 mile from the trailhead. Party at my place before, and after. And it's a brutal run, bring your big boy panties.

That being said, I'll be up for anyplace should it work....and if it's Kensington, great. Someone make that call....
