Total Time = 1h 53m 44s
Overall Rank = 229/274
Age Group = M 5-33
Age Group Rank = 43/51
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and ate one Banana and a Power bar. Tryed to drink a cup of coffee but wasn't feeling it. Packed my Tri bag and rode my cruiser to the race. Kinda nice to live 4 blocks from the race.
Event warmup:

Nothing realy. It was warm enough.
Swim
  • 20h 46m
  • 820 yards
  • 2h 31m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was a little nervous about the swim so I thought I would just wait a little bit after the start to let the group thin out. I tryed to swim as slw as the people in the back but it was imposible. I decided to just swim through the slow group. They kicked and grabbed me like I was a Kayak. I had several people actually grab my anckles. This got old quick so I started kicking a little harder and just powered away from them. After I made it through that group I found myself in a sweet spot between the fat group and the slow group. I stayed in this area for most of the swim after that. After I rounded the second Bouy. I was getting run into by someone on my right side. I swear the guy was trying to ride me like a dolphin. He was so wrapped up on my on my right side that I was only stroking with my left. After I finally shok him I got a mouth full of water and had to stop to cough it up. The guy that had been all over me passed me. I was pissed. But I didn't think too much of it. I finished the swim strong but as I was getting out I cut my knee on the bottom of the exit stairs. Over all it was a good first swim in Tempe Town lake.
What would you do differently?:

I would just power from the start and not try and hang back to avoid the chaos. You are going to get kicked and slapped in the bac too. So might as well make up some time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

I was just too slow and I felt unorganized.
What would you do differently?:

I would practice this Transition a lot more. I spend far too much time in Transition.
Bike
  • 43h 33m
  • 12 miles
  • 0.28 mile/hr
Comments:

The amount of people and the narrowness of the lanes lead to many close calls. I had to come out of Aero so many times to navagate a narrow path around someone.
What would you do differently?:

Work on hills. HILLS HILLS HILLS.
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

I did ok in T2 I need to practice much more. I think I could lose 3min in T1 and T2.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know yet I will tell you after some trainning.
Run
  • 43h 33m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14h 02m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I am npt a runner. I think I did ok. I shaved 10min off my time from my last Tri. I didn't feel like I was so much tired as I was hurting in my calves and a little in the hills.
What would you do differently?:

I would go to a runing specialist before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

What warm down it wa so hot that I didn't cool down for 4 hours.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight. I need to loose another 20lbs before the next Tri.

Event comments:

I realy like this race and I look forward to the Oly next year.

Many times I had to pass on the right and into traffic. Far too conjested for the little path. And some of the turnes were less that 3 feet wide.

Well done! Sounds like you had a good time out there

You did your first open water swim without a wetsuit and that is not easy!

Great Job! The more Race Swim's you do, the more you'll figure out how to shake the toe nibblers.

You did great out there, Cody.  The conditions for the swim were TOUGH, and you did really well.  Keep up the great work!

Great job!

The key to transitions is to simplify.

And seriously, go get a tetanus shot. I cut my foot open at Nathan's last year. Saw the med tent at the end of the race and they told me to get one.

I'm impressed with a no wetsuit swim there. I almost died when I tried that.

Fantastic work.

Ten minutes off your run time from last year, what an accomplishment, especially for a non-runner. You've been putting in some great training and will be awesome at SOMA! Awesome Job!

Cody, It was good to see you out there. You have come a long way in a short amount of time. This race was much different than Chances. You did an OWS sans wetsuit in your second race. Be careful about asking for Hills, We'll get you out to Usery in no time.

Congrats

Sorry about the scraped knee. But this was a tough swim to survive. Great job! And you are a runner! Don't let anyone tell you you're not (yet) one. You are faster than 99% of the population who don't run at all. Great job. Just keep at it.
