Hi All,

Anyone do this race last year?  Or familiar with the company putting it on - TriFamilyRacing?

I want to compete more than once before the end of the season, so I am looking for something in addition to SOMA.

Thanks,

Tim

I have done one Tri-family race and loved it, just not in Mexico.  However, this course was raced by many in the Spring - (they all raved) but with another race director.  No matter what - you will have a great time out of country and in an Ocean swim - enjoy the race!

I did this one last year. Like Jerry said, you'll have fun (it's in Mexico). As for the race, I have to miss this year due to some scheduling issues. Last year there was a race on Saturday and Sunday. I did the sprint (on Sunday), and we spent most of the monrning (until 11 am) waiting to start because of the tide. I hope this year they will have some experience and can get it going a little better. My beef with the race last year was the late start time which led to more traffic on the roads, and then more people on the beach. When they say the last mile is a beach run, you are running through people out catching rays, drinking, sand castles etc.. Bonus: chicks in Bikini's, but dodging kids on the run kinda sucks.

Overall, it's fun. The water is great, the race is fairly small so you don't have to worry about 2000 other people being jerks on the course. The people that put the race on are really friendly, and did I mention, you're in Mexico?...

The race director is my coach. I've not done the Mexico race, but his other races are small and well-done.

I had a blast down there - from a kayaker's point of view!  The problem with the late start has to do with the tides.  They can't set the markers til the tide is in.  BUT, since tides are predictable, you would think they would adjust start times around the tide tables.  It's not like it's a surprise.  I think I paddled for the same one Steve did.  They had us waiting around forever.  Instead, they should have set the start time to later.  Other than that, seems like all other parts went well and it is BEAUTIFUL!
