I am having problems with my Garmin 405. The one I am currently using is the 3rd one. I am thinking about taking it back and getting the 305

I just built my own MS kit thru Amazon and it was about the same price. Pull the trigger on that one.

but do I really neeeed it?
Will I learn more information about my training that I can use to improve?

I don't use any gadgets currently besides my circa 1985 Timex Ironman watch.  so no HRM.  no pacing.  not MPH or cadence on the bike.

What I'd like, minimally, is a pacer for running; I typically start out too fast and pay for it later and overall.  It was interesting to see HRM data the one day recently I worked out in a gym on a bike and treadmill. But the info didn't change my workout, it was just a curiosity.

I've just finished my first season of sprint tris.  I currently do not have plans to go longer, mostly due to a lack of desire to swim long distances in water cold enough to require a wetsuit.  Sure, I might change my mind, but I am happy at the sprint distance.  That said, I have decided to train for my first 10K race.  Biking is enjoyable but without someone(s) to ride with, the longer distances are not too interesting solo.  As a mom of two under 4, my workouts are grab-n-go.

Any opinions?      maybe there's a simpler/cheaper gadget for me.

I just bought the same package (I put it together). from Amazon for a few bucks less. This is a good price. I went with Amazon because I had a $25 off coupon.

I'm using the same setup and really like it.   No complaints yet.    Sure makes it easy to upload your run and bike data to BT!

As the other post indicated, check Amazon as well.  You can get the 305 without the cadence sensor for around $200.   You can always buy that later if you decide you need it.

Well mine is charged and I have been playing with it for the last 2 hours. It is amazing. I can't wait to get out and try it out tomorrow.

Garmin 305 says its waterproof for 30 minutes about 1 meter?  So... that I guess means you shouldn't swim with it?!

I wouldn't recommend it. That just means you can use it in the rain.
